I changed out stock distributor 1974 fj40, 2f engine, think 2f is 1976. Old distributor stopped working before change, point holddown screw striped. Put hei in and can't start. tryed moving one notch each way. Wired straight from batt, incase low voltage through ign switch. rotated in small incraments. Help.

make sure u were at tdc on #1...THE DIST LINE UP VERY DIFFERENTLY
then check if you are getting spark, next wire orientation...
mine has been a pia

you may have to skip a tooth or two to get the firing order to fall in the right orientation to get the firing to come out correct. I had to do that just to get the vacuum advance to be in the right place and get the firing timing correct. Just rotate the oil pump with a screwdriver to upget the orientation correct so when you slide the distributor in it lines up.

Check the plug wiring and firing at TDC

Thanks guy's. Yes, I had on tdc, rotor pointed toward just forward of # 4 plug. Lined up #1 on cap to rotor. Vacuum is in different location than stock. Tryed rotating one gear each way.

dizzy problem

Does it matter what contact you use for #1 cylinder. Putting the dist shaft in so that the rotor is pointing at the #4 cylinder then lining up the vacuum to the same location as stock dist. Can I use the closest dist contact for number 1 cylinder. The pictures of installed hei's on this site show using contact left of center oposite the wire connections. The pictures don't show the vacuum location. Does somebody have a picture of an installed hei dizzy on a 2F.

Any post can be #1

I ended up putting the rotor facing #1 cylinder as #1 was at TDC. I just routed the plug wires into the firing order after that. Like poser said, any one can be #1 post on the dizzy.

Fixed problem HEI

Had dist 180 degree's out. Didn't have #1 at TDC afterall. Thanks for all the help.
