Hello, got a sinking feeling that Im way not qualified for this install! Was wondering a couple things: will a 1986 HJ60 heater core work on an 88 HJ61? Can these things be repaired at a old timey Rad shop if not? Thanks all

I’ve seen a couple different sizes of heater cores on 60 variants. It may work. Removal of the dash and
heater box is a patience tester. It’s not difficult, requires small hands and a bit of contortionist abilities.
Be very careful with the small brass heater pipe clips that hold the bronze pipes together.
The heater core is just that, same as any other so depending on how bad, it probably is repairable.

Cruiser pilot, awsome! theres hope! The added bummer is the one on the 60 is still in place, so I will have to do it twice! The HJ60 is a parts truck, so I can do a practice run on that first, then go full on surgeon with the 61. Thanks!

Use a 10 mm on a long, long extension, I think there are 2 nuts along the leading edge of the
dash pad on each side of the defroster plenum. Those are the hardest to figure out. Find them first.
Be really gentle getting the gauge cluster out and disconnecting the Speedo.
That plastic clip required tough fingers to depress. Make sure before you try to pull the cable out.

Awsome thanks for the tips! Now to build my confidence up on the parts truck and wait for a good stretch of weekend weather(no garage, sadly)

one thing Im confused about. Others are mentioning that they had a shop solder on the copper pipes. Does that mean you have to take out the pipes also? Or do they do it while its assembled?
