I replaced my radiator today in my ‘98 along with the hoses and thermostat. All OEM. Flushed the system 4-5 times until is ran clear. Burb’d the system as well.

Engine temps are right where they should be and I have zero leaks.

Went for a drive to make sure any air was moved through and now my heater is stuck on full heat. Yesterday my AC worked and heat was adjustable.

Any thoughts on what this could be?

I found a thread where the guy spent 2 years and finally fixed his lack of heat after working on a handful of items. But just yesterday all was working well and today, I fixed one thing just to have another pop up unexpectedly.

Check fuses and all seemed ok.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Heat is always on! In that coolant constantly flows through the cores (front & rear). If heat was working properly before flushing, which most wouldn't known unless winter (using). Then your diverter door is now stuck open. Or diverter was stuck and you didn't know. Because coolant wasn't flowing through core(s) (low coolant, air bubble or blockage).

I did see once, where AC wouldn't work. Nor would OAT read-out. It's diverter door was in heat position, and could not be changed. So heat was on all the time. It was a ground fault in RH junction box. We believed a result of past water entry, for poor windshield install.

For sure! I just got back from a drive where the heat wasn’t coming through any longer.

I took a look at the diverter/servo from the passenger side. It’s super slow when changing temperature and the heat never fully comes on now.

You think it could be the servo that moves the arm/diverter?

Well, it doesn’t look like this will be a problem anytime soon.

Yesterday, while I was at Sam’s Club, this portable phone battery caught fire while sitting in the cupholders (not plugged in or being used). I was greeted with a face full of smoke and a heart full of panic when I first opened the door. It burned its self out (thank God).

Not sure what I’m going to do yet, but if I keep the 100, I’ll tear apart the dash and replace the servo while I replace much of the interior from smoke damage. Mechanically it’s solid, so it may be worth repairing it.

Also, not sure how my coupon to Del Taco survived but the visors melted! 🤪

Wow, thats terrible... I feel for you! Sorry that happened!

Lithium is not to be played with. We handle lithium at very very inert conditions such as glove boxes. I am always worried about these lithium batteries in check in luggage inside the plane. Just a speck of moisture can ignite it!

Crazy on the moisture thing. I am guessing that’s why they say you’re not allowed to check items with those batteries in your luggage.

I crashed my DJI drone into a lake last year and the battery survived. I have hours of flight time and there is no issue. I didn’t know these batteries were so fragile.

It’s a crappy situation for sure. Thank you!

I dont know about all lithium batteries, but I used to have a number LiPo batteries for RC cars. I never had this happen, but I knew couple people who's chargers didnt stop charging, battery went into thermal runaway and caught fire. Luckily, the batteries were stored with anticipation of fire, so no significant damage.

I read about Apple watch batterys or laptop batteries 'swelling up,' and wonder if folks know how close they are to major incident if the battery actually split open . . . ?

Lithium batteries = danger!

I’ve had many batteries swell in the past. Never an issue after that. I’m not going to risk it after this. This battery was not swollen - no indication something was bad, other than being recalled. I completed all the refund info on the recall early that morning! Like I said early it was not plugged in nor was it being used. It just spontaneously caught fire. Thank God my windows were closed and I was not driving.

If my windows were even slightly opened it’s likely the whole vehicle would have gone up in smoke.

If I was driving I would have major burns.

Of all the places and times for this to happen, it was perfect. No one was hurt and the fire didn’t spread.

You were sooo lucky. What a blessing in disguise ...
