Headlight wire harness FJ60 and FJ62 (3 Viewers)

Hi Erik,

I'm in the process of getting my FJ62 road worthy and I just noticed one of my low beam headlight is out. I was gong to replace it with the same one that was in it before, but then I realized that it didn't provide a lot of light. I was thinking about upgrading to the Sylvania Silverstars. Would I need your kit to run a set those? Or am I ok holding off on your kit until I want to upgrade to something more intense?

You don't need a new harness to use the sealed beam Sylvania Silverstars. That said, the wiring and switches in these old girls are pretty tired. You will get a lot more light out of the Silverstars with a new harness, and you will have the capability to upgrade to much better headlights when you are ready. Speaking only for my harness, I build it for the upgraded H4 headlights, so if you want to use it with sealed beam headlights, it requires an additional set of adapters.

OK Erik, I stared at your 60 schematic for a while before, well, the light came on...

So as I read it, your design (which I assume mimics the Toyota design) feeds power to the common terminal of the headlamp bulbs. The low/high switch controls a switching relay that swaps the ground from low to high to activate the high beams.

Being A) cheap and B) stubborn, I whipped up a harness on my own. I had all the materials, and I've built harnesses for many of my cars, so it's not my first rodeo.

Or so I thought.

As you can likely guess, I have no high beams now. On the up side, my low beams are much brighter! I wired the lights assuming the 60 was like 99% of the cars on the road, with separate power feeds for low and high beam and a common ground.

The good news is, I have switching relays, so I can make the necessary mods.

I thought I'd share so you could have a good laugh. :o :D

Most of us on this forum are cheap and stubborn....that's why we are on this forum! You are correct. My design behaves like the Toyota design: 12 volts is supplied to the headlight common when the headlights are turned on. Then, a relay takes the place of the high/low switch in your steering column and switches the ground between high beam and low beam. So, get back on that bucking bronco and finish the rodeo.;)

I will be ordering two of the FJ60 ultimate harness by next week. One for my FJ60 and the second for my friends 91 Toyota pickup. If I give you some different distances between connectors are you able to custom make it?
 
The ones I have looked at look the same with the switched ground. I will see if I can get my friend who has the PDF of the wire diagram to post up a picture if it.

What is the wire routing if I mount the box on the pass side by the fire wall. I am measuring the locations to see if it will work on the pickup. It has room on that side and the battery is on the same side. As soon as we get that down I will be ordering one for my FJ60 and the pickup.
 
They are now. He installed round eyes 90/120w bulbs. The guy that sold them to him said it would be ok on the wiring and "they will only draw what they can draw".
 
FJ-62 lights, with a twist.

Wasn't able to find this, probably because I wasn't sure what search words to use...I have an FJ-62, and I got some H4 lights I want to use with high-watt bulbs. Question is, I want the relay setup to use the high AND low beams on all four lights, rather than the inner ones being high beam only.Any ideas on how to adapt the wiring harness, or even better, a premade harness for the 62?
 
I think that would be too bright to on coming traffic. It is like those that run there fog lights all the time, it is just too much light and is dangerous to others. One pair of properly aimed low beams should be more that enough.
