Will the headlight buckets from a later bib (after 69, without the parking lights) fit an early bib?

My 45 came with a later bib and I have a replacement early bib, but not the buckets. SOR lists different ones, but I was wondering if later ones will fit, or fit with modding, or if I have to search for used early buckets.

I know, I could just try it, but I thought someone would know offhand.

I think they will......I think I have done this.......maybe ;)

So, you're maybe for sure possibly, John? :D

I know I personally fit my 78 lights and stuff into a '71 bib. But that's all I know.

as long as you have both you should be fine, I know there were differences between my 68 40, and my 70 40 in the bib dept. But the same 3-4 screws that hold the entire assembly to the bib are the same.

Definitely a difference in the early bibs, say 67 back. The buckets are literally buckets...much deeper than the later model ring type buckets, and will not interchange with late model stuff.

So, are there different bibs for pre and post 67 (but pre69) that have different headlight bucket fitments? The replacement bib I have (with places for the parking lights) seems to be roughly the same as far as the shape of the headlight bucket (dishlike), compared to my 71 bib.

I am posting this for future reference for anyone who is interested.

I had time today to look at this issue, and, unfortunately, the later buckets do not fit into the early bib, as Texx pointed out.

The later buckets have the lobe you see, and there is a corresponding cutout in the bib. The early bibs don't have the lobe. Also, the bolt holes are different.

I realize that I could cut the old bib and retrofit it, but if anyone has appropriate working old-style buckets that would fit (pre 7/70), I would be glad to buy them. :D

Hey IDave,
I removed the "cone style" buckets from my 71 and installed the flat style buckets from a 78. My old ones look like they would fit the round hole bid in your lower photo if you're interested (and I can find both of em). My 71 did not have the cut outs.

That would be great, Yoda, but I thought they quit making the round cone-styles in 7/70. And the screw pattern is different (3 vs. 4). But double check and let me know!

Thanks!

I also have a set out of a 70 or 71 FJ 40 if Yoda's doesnt work.

I have found both bucket assy's. I found one ring that has the threads that goes on the inside of the bib. These have the 4 holes as shown on your bib.

Still looking for 1 headlight chrome bulb retainer, and the other backing plate.....they have to be in the garage somewhere.

I'll try to post pix Monday (if I can get them small enough to post)

Kool!

Sorry for image....just a pc camera

Still looking for the chrome ring for headlamp and other rear retaining ring (it does have 4 mounting holes and 2 adjuster holes)
