Newbie here,
I have a 1991 J80 and was wondering if any knows if there is an alarm that sounds when the light are left on. This has happened twice to me (light left on) and the battery is almost dead.
If the sun roof is left opened there is an alarm to alert me, but not the light.
Any ideas
Tom

Well in my cruiser the lights turn off when i turn the ignition off. Don't know why it doesn't do that for you. Maybe its a feature only on the FZJ80's. Just put a sticky note on the car to remind you to turn them off if you can't figure it out. Haha.

My old co-worker used to do that for real. :D

Lots of ways to rig one up ...

- ignition off
- light switch set to on

= alarm

you need an electrical manual ...

My head hurts when I get into this stuff , so thats all I'll say . Plus I make things way too complicated ..

You left out the fact that the driver's door then has to be opened.

Anyway, for the original question, googled this up for you:

Parts could be found at RadioShack or electronic retailers...

I was going to buy an after market manual that has more detail drawings.
I was hoping for some ideas other then stick notes. Don’t get me wrong it’s a good idea and right in my budget.
I don’t under stand if some LC will turn them off automatically why doesn’t the J80 at least have a buzzer or bell?

Yeah i don't know i guess it is just mine then. It's pretty badass cause i usually just leave them on all the time cause it is safe on the road and they always turn off when i turn off the car. Oh well. Oh and by the way the sticky notes total joke I definitly don't expect you to do that. haha. good luck!

Hey maybe his door switch is stuck so it never knows if the door has been open so it never turns off the lights.

Can ANYONE confirm if there is or is not a problem with the truck.

if the door switch was stuck the dome light would not come on. so i think were good there. Good idea.

I always thought the battery just turned off the lights automatically within 12 hrs or so ... :flipoff2:

They (Toyota engineers) didn't learn that LC owners are a little forgetful until just before 1993.

It's just a model/feature thing. If you really need the lights to turn off by themselves...uh...buy a FZJ80

'91s don't have the fancy electricals -- the lights don't turn off with the ignition --

e

I could be wrong but I don't remember an alarm for the lights in my 91 either, one for the moon roof but not the lights.

My '91 doesn't have the auto off headlight (when you open the door) or even a buzzer/warning. BUT like mentioned above it does have an alarm if you leave the moonroof open. I've now trained myself to check it everytime I get out of the car.

Seems like there use to be a writeup on how to wire into the key in ignition buzzer, if I run across it I'll post it,
