I was advised to do a turbo rebuild as I wanted a few mods done but the shop said I needed to get the turbo rebuilt first. So I went and did that. Turns out the turbo was fine but in the process of reinstaling the turbo I have encountered a new issue. The alternator seems to have issues. Note- we also cleaned the engine bay before reinstaling the turbo. So we sprayed degreaser of some sort and water all over.
All the lights on the dash are now lit up after the instal of the turbo- I hear this is called the christmas tree affect and often comes from a loose connection or from dirty water getting into the plug. The alternator is not charging the batteries when the truck is running. I had to get it jumped yesterday and while I was driving it home the radio turned off and the lights dimmed. I have since pulled the plug and cleaned it, as I heard this is sometimes the cause of this, but it doesn't appear to have helped as all the lights are on. I have it charging right now so we will see if it holds a charge tomorrow. If it is not solved tomorrow I think the next step is to pull it out and take it to a shop. Logical next step or should I do something else first? Also, I am from Vancouver, do you recommend any specific shops that can look at it and rebuild it? Should I get it upgraded?
Should I get it rebuilt or get a new one? Any ideas besides a car wrecker or where I could get one? Thanks for you help.
