Have you ever had a 100? Yes ? Then I'll skip over everything that's specific to any 100 that you probably already know.
I've equipped my HDJ100 for overland expeditions. Fully equipped, passenger, diesel, food and all, it weighs almost 7500 lbs.
I keep an Excel file for my consumption and for a total distance of 45,000 miles, I average 17.3 mpg (US gallon). The best ever on the highway : 21.2mpg. Worst-ever city driving: 15.2 MPG... (and soft sand beach driving: 10.7mpg)
In the worst-case scenario, you could easily drive 375 miles on one tank.
It's probably less responsive than the gasoline engine, but as I alway had diesel Landcruiser it all good for me and usually like to drive quietly at 2200 rpm which gives about 65mph (with 285/75R16).
The only negative point is when I'm on forest roads and there are many hills to climb and descend where I drive between 35mph and 45mph. The 4-speed transmission always seems to be looking for the right gear and keeps downshifting.
Like all large vehicles, it's not really suited to DD in urban areas. Still, you U.S. poeples like big vehicles ... then it won't be a problem
