Yeah, that could be potentially annoying and unfortunately something you may only find out after buying, because it's not like you're gonna be allowed to rip up the carpet to check for holes and threads when inspecting the car. I'm looking for an LHD car, so UK's market is of no concern in this situation. By the way, what do you mean by "mountings were destroyed permanently"? It's not like you cant re-drill some holes if needed and/or weld some threads or bolts on again to fasten the bench seat?It also depends on what has been done to the mounting hole threads; have they been drilled through and then welded up afterwards, or is there just a bolt in there welded to the body.
I think for the UK and Ireland (where they commercialised quite a few of the 90 and 120 series, as well as various Land Rovers) the rear mountings were destroyed permanently so they couldn't be returned to being a wagon.
I have actually seen some cases where unscrupulous dealers just installed some random bench seat to probably raise the value of the car, but it looks like an abomination:
