I'm trying to find out if a generator is needed for the ac/dc welder when the dc source is selected. Thanks a bunch.

Are you talking about an engine drive welder? ON AC/DC welders, the DC is derived by rectifying the AC depending on the selector switch setting regardless whether it is an engine drive or a plug in welder.

So I can use DC from the 220v outlet from the wall?

What kind of welder do you have, that will help give a better answer.

Im looking at buying the lincoln idealarc 250 ac/dc or the miller dialarc 250 ac/dc. 2 are available in my area.

thank you
