Hi Guys,
soz havent been in the forum for a long time. But here i am again. I can believe myself for what i had purchase last week!! As some of you guys know previously i had a Bj42 and a 100 series as a workhorse and now i got an immaculate 80 series a 96' manual:D. So i have 3 landy for work at 2 different place!! But anyway heres my question.

Anybody tried these mods for their 1HD-FT?

Heres the link : Welcome to Land Cruiser Owners On Line .

I sort of understood what its trying to do but im not familiar with the car set up yet. Can anybody help me in showing me the parts stated in the link? Parts such as Boost compensator, Boost compensator diaphragm and the "PIN". I dont know how these parts look.

Will these mods reduces the turbo's life expectancy? Cos the place where i am going its mostly hilly places by the coast. So it will be on a constant high revs.

Im also planning on upgrading the exhaust system to 3" piping all the way. From dump pipe on till the end tip. Im planning to have a middle exhaust resonator and a stragiht pipe after that.

What you guys think about these mods combines with the exhaust system that i plan to upgrade? Lemme know.

I run a 3" straight pipe and no muffler .. great upgrade .. you can see at my sign more info.

Also running 14.5 PSI of boost ..

Top part of the IP with the vacc black hose pluged it's your boost compensator ..

There is in front the idle adjust bolt and close at the other side ( between the IP and engine ) the fuel bolt ..

Thanks for the info tapage. I was thinking of running a 3" SS piping through for the exhaust system. But with only a middle resonator. to keep the noise down. Cos i will be doing a lot of hill climbing and twisties so im dont want a "too loud" exhaust. Ohh plus probably 3.5" dump pipe.

IN the picture you showed me. Is that where i turn half turn for the boost compensator? And about the "pin" on the last bit of the writeup in the link above. Whats the "pin"? But i think thats optional.

If you want more boost in the 1HD-T you must need to run a boost controler ( see my thread ) but NOTE: the link that you past it's for the 1HD-FT that it's 24 valvles and electronic injection not for the 1HD-T 12V and totaly mechanical that it's my case.

The 1HD-FT is not electronic injection but the last incarnation of the old mechanical setup. The 1HD-FTE is the electronic version as fitted to the 100 series.

In reference to the link, yes, the adjustments do work,I've done 2 of them.

EFI i think its only available in the later models of 100 series. The 1HD-FT engine is a 24 valve, direct injection with a mechanical injection pump.

Toyota introduced the 100 series with the "common rail" system on its late model. Cos my 100 series is one of the first batch in oz and its got 1HZ engine in it and the turbo model wasnt introduced until a couple of years later after i bought the 100series.

Is it hard to do the first mod listed in the link? After seeing your picture, its preety easy to do the second one. Thanks for your help though.

Towpack, good to hear you have done it. Hows does it go? A lot better. Do you have a pic to show me what to look for in the first part of the mod? Like a fuelp pump or something. I only need to see where to turn the notch at. Thanks

I ask coz I already know the 1HD-FTE electronicaly controlled and intercooled engine here in Panamá, but also know ( much less coz are much less popularm ) the 1HD-FT 24V that have some sort of the electronic management ..

Is your HZ powered 100 the beam front axle version (105)?
Here in New Zealand the 100 series came out in 99 and through to being replaced last year they had the 1HD-FTE installed. Our market didn't get the 105 series, all are independent suspension.

The 1HD-FTE is an electronically managed rotary pump. It's hard to see though, toyota went crazy with noise covers on that engine.

Hi Dougal,

yes my 100 series is equipped with the live axle. And the engine is a rigged up with a turbo system with intercooler and with a boost compensator from Safari 4x4.

And i sure luv the new V8 diesel though.

The solid axle 105 was sold here in NZ, although it never sold in great numbers. Ive probably seen 7 or 8 so far this year. Unlike OZ we only got one spec level, the mid spec RV, with 5 speed manual only, no auto option like the aussies. I took one for a spin over at Te Puke earlier this year, even with 220K on the clock, it was amazing how smooth and quiet it was. Ive always wondered why they never sold them with the 1HD-FT fitted.

I dont think we got the FZJ version, only the HZJ, although theres at least one OZ FZJ105 that has been imported. ;)

I have seen the ocassional 105 as well (maybe 4 total), the rear lights made me presume aussie imports as I never saw a new one.
There are the occasional freak 100 series around with a manual gearbox and the 1HD-FTE. The one I have seen wasn't sold here new though, I don't know where it was imported from.

Toyota don't list any 105's in their used vehicle lineup. Only 100's and 80's. A family member purchased a brand new 100 in 2001, there were only three spec levels, no 105 was on offer.

The injection timing it's not controled by a computer in the 1HD-FT .?

I have (ok had, I just sold it) a 1HD-FT in an 80 series 96' model and it was not electronic it was mechanical, that enigne totally rocked!!

Cheers,

Michael
