Has anyone installed the $180 ebay snorkel?

Here’s what insomnia and a heat gun can do on the LX fender. I was worried about putting too much torque on the a-pillar bracket, but that honestly may have been a non-issue.

Where did you heat it at? Asking because I’ve put off on adding a snorkel to my 570 for this fitment reason

First you have to fill with sand completely to both ends so when you heat the plastic it doesn’t deform or crinkle at the bend. Then if you follow the seam down to where it does a S-shaped bend, I heated there. Took a few hours of heating it up, then bending and slow cooling with a soaked towel while keeping weight on the bend! It will spring back each time, but cycle it again and again to get it just right. Mine now fits on and off without any pressure or bending, like it was made for it.

@MTKID what if I told you that I saw first hand this Russian wonder and would rather not have it on my rig? (political reasons aside)

Is it fair for me to make my previous statement then? - with your permission of course!

BTW I didn't realize you have one for sale and you feel obligated to reply...

I'll be happy to remove my previous statement if it helps you to unload it.

Sorry I don't have a horse it this race.

Carry on.

Cheers !
Don’t need my permission to be an ass. You got that covered all on your own.

I will still be installing mine.

And here comes an insult... exactly as expected.

Sure made yourself look good here.

Enjoy it !

Cheers !

You are correct. I didn’t need to stoop so low! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, yourself include. And things can be misconstrued on an otherwise wonderful forum.

Sorry if I misunderstood both of your comments and you only meant the best by them.

Still happy to wheel with you, if you can put up with my silly snorkel choices.

Thank you for your last reply.

I took a hard look at this snorkel in the past (3-4 years ago to be more accurate) because I liked the look of it.

After seeing it in person I realized that it was a copy of someone else's design and done pretty rough in fiberglass - I'm sure that it was a ton of work to make it presentable to be installed!

After a bit of searching I found the original (if you want to call it that) in China where it can be outsourced in LLDPE plastic in wholesale quantities but the manufacturer will not ship it to USA because it is not DOT certified...

I tried to convince them that for off road use it is not needed, but gave up after 4 months of talking in circles.

Again a appreciate your last reply and wish you best of luck with the snorkel.

BTW would wheel with you and your awesome truck anytime !!

Cheers !

Impressive work trying to get the original version. I haven’t seen anything else like it, and assumed it was an original design. Mind sharing a photo of the original?

I hope mine holds up. We certainly have some tight trees up here so it may get put the test. I’d guess it may survive longer in a desert region, or possibly more wide open areas like Moab/St George if you’re not pushing it up against a rock wall. It doesn’t feel flimsy in my hands but I know it won’t survive with the weight of the rig pinching it up against something. I’ll try to drive like I know this but sometimes you get in pickle and some things are unavoidable.

I’ve installed snorkels on both my previous rigs …after doing water things that could have turned out bad. Never ended up in a similar circumstance after installing them. Maybe this will be the time that I have it ahead of time. If not, I do like the look of it. Similar to some people and their affinity for off-road lights.

I agree with everything you said and wide open spaces are best for it.

200 series looks a bit more awkward with a classic snorkle then say 80 or 100 series and that is what made me look for the one like yours.

I'll try to dig out some pics of the Chinese version tomorrow.

I forgot to add the pics, so here you go:
