Hello all.

In New Zealand we have a lot of gravel roads, and while nothing like the famous Australian red dust, it is still a dusty environment. Plus we have a network of driveable river beds that can have deep crossings. I don't do anything extreme, but these two factors and my typical use been a snorkel is the next mod on my list.

I have googled the options, which in basic terms are:
- metal tube snorkel, kind of the modern take
- safari
- TJM
- Chinese TJM which is significantly cheaper, but of course Chinese quality lottery

I'm looking for any views on these options? I personally like the look of the last two options, and the cost of the last one. But it's an expensive vehicle so the cost aspect is just my instinctive Scottish heritage which I can squash as needed.

I'm also considering installing myself, asides from the shock horror of drilling the quarter panel it seems quite a simple task?

Any views appreciated. One of the things promoting my post was reading old threads here where several people mentioned having the Chinese version. If any of them are still on here, how's the longevity after a few years?

Thank you!

I did an Ironman a few years back.

Drilling / cutting is super easy. Just measure twice. And don't trust the template, verify each step by test fitting.

Mrs. ORLC is pretty happy the Covid beard is gone.

isnt there a oem one in Africa Gibralter Toyota with cyclone?

I put a Chinese tjm clone on. It was all fine. It’s been quite a few years now and the plastic is still solid. The petrol air box doesn’t use the same connector as the diesel air box. It came bolt on ready for the diesel.

In retrospect being able to fit a cyclonic cleaner like the ARB allows is a pretty good feature the tjm lacks. Particularly if you’re trying to maximize dust collection. If you can find the 200 OEM snorkel, I think it came with a pre cleaner.

Thanks! I love that hard action shot with the hole saw, and thanks grinch for the veto of the TJM look alike.
