Am I supposed to use fasteners to hold the hard top fiberglass to the bracket above the windshield? Screws? Rivets?

What year is your 40? My '76 has 2 bolts on the outside of the window frame that attach the top

This is the best pic I could find of a'67. It looks like it has the same 2 bolts on the outside of the window frame.

thank you. Im asking about attaching the fiberglass to the visor above the windshield frame.

Yes, that metal piece that goes in front (outside) of the windshield frame is attached to the fiberglass top by rivets.
I used some small (M4 I think...) nuts, but originally it was riveted.

If I recall correctly, we used M8's sourced from McMaster and put a little dab of clear silicone under heads.
I used huckbolts. Worked flawlessly. Looked good, pull up tight, I should be able to bury them in the headliner easily enough.
Find somebody that does semi trailer repair, they should have the tool. They are a little prohibitively expensive for a handful of fasteners.

Similar idea to a rivet, just pulled from the opposite side and there's no hole in the middle.
