Hello. I've visited here a few times and am happy to have joined. I have a 1989 V6 chassis cab with duallies and a modest dump body on it. I'm looking for a Toyota non-USA spec, hand throttle that I believe fits into the knock-out plug left of the steering column above the hood release handle. Elsewhere on the web I've found a cable (78401-89107) for the older bodystyle trucks from 1985-1988 but those trucks have the hand throttle on the right side of the column like my '95 L/C FZJ80. I don't think that cable will reach to the left side of the column. Any info on this would be great. Thanks. Brian E.

I have the entire pedal assembly with hand throttle for the earlier trucks, I had a guy get it for me from a junkyard in Australia. Yes, the knob part goes in a hole to the right of the steering column, and the other end of the cable attaches to the gas pedal linkage. I'm gonna have to do some fabricating to get it to work in my truck, as the gas pedal he sent me came from a RHD truck, it's not the same. But, yes you are correct that the cable will be too short for your application.

Brian, welcome to Mud!!!! :flipoff2: Glad to have you and your dump bed!

Check out the Parts catalog link in my signature. Do some searching there and see if you can find the right part number, and see if your local dealer can order it up, and if that doesn't work, call Cruiser Dan here on Mud (Look in the vendor section for American Toyota?) He's a Toyota Parts guy and is used to odd part requests... :D

Here's the problem I think you're going to have..... I doubt a hand throttle was available for your year, with a left hand drive, and the 3.0... If you find one for your body style and left hand drive it will probably be for a different engine, which means it'll either be too long (not a bad thing...) or too short...

I'm interested in this though, so please let us know what happens!

Thanks for the info so far. I researched your catalog 2ndGen and found 2 possible cables for European LHD diesels. One is 78401-35040 & the other is 78401-89109. Unlike the picture for the older bodystyles, it is not really shown what the "business" end of the cable connects to. I was hoping that like my FZJ80 or the older trucks it would connect to the top of the pedal, even if I had to swap the pedal out with the European one. Based on what the picture does look like, I'll bet the cable goes through the firewall which may be to my advantage. It's probably long enough to adapt to my needs. If anyone else has any info on these part numbers feel free to chime in. And yea; I saw the bicycle shifter idea. It's very clever; right now though I'm looking for a more factory look. Thanks. Brian E.

I got two hand throttles from Nathan here on Mud.
