I just passed my tech exam, and have installed a kenwood Tm71v in the glove box, but I'm looking for a more permanent place for it, but I would still
Like the main body out of site, the control head in mounted near the ash tray. It's kinda tight in the GX as we know... Where is your radio?!
I thought I saw someone had it in the center console and that was my original plan. Until the radio showed up and it's too large.

Thanks! 73s

Congrats on passing the exam, I typically only use my HAM on simplex channels so we never use call letters and just chat as if it were a CB. Most of the people I wheel with have hacked race radios for the Baja races and the test was pointless but I do have it in case I ever need to hit a repeater for an emergency. Not that the test teaches you how to do any of that important stuff.

I got mine wired for emergency purposes over the weekend so I can hook it up in minutes if we need to on the Baja trip I am taking next week so still looking for a place to mount the unit and then a spot for the face plate. I might have to pull out the leather bound Lexus booklet in the top slot of the glove box and put the unit in their and then run the face plate down to under the ash tray?
The big trick is going to be the antenna, thinking of hitting up YodaTeq to see if he would be interested in making a mount like the 80 series mounts he did. He used us in the SoCal 80's to test his product. I already had a mount but I did buy one of his to mount a rear camp light LED.

This was my mount on my 80 but the GX has a much sharper angle above the tail lights so it would be a little weird on the GX. I liked my mount because I could swivel it to match the body line so it wouldn't hang out their and catch every branch that brushed the side of the truck. Photos were with the CB antenna, later replaced with a 2M HAM antenna.

Well, I have a CD changer there in the slot, but I am not opposed to taking it out. The face plate is in s perfect spot, i just have I mounted with 3M tape.
Thanks for the replies. There are so few spots to hide it

I ended up taking the CD changer out, stuck the unit in that slot, and cleaned up the wires running to the mic, and face plate. The kenwood glows the exact color of our interior, and looks nearly factory.
It's also incredibly easy to program, and highly recommended!

I mounted my handheld in a bracket attached to my ipad mount and the external antenna is on the bumper up front.

Hey, congrats on TEch, I also run a V71 in my Gx. I did an install that meets your specs. My build thread is in my signature. I took a lot of pics you might find helpful if you want your player back.
