HAM radio information thread (2 Viewers)

Depends on what you want it for. Simple rig-rig comm then a cheap HT will work. If you want it for remote or emergency comm then a mobile rig may be in order. As for dual band, some linked repeaters are 70 cm and if that is the one you need to hit then a 2m only rig will not help you. For example MARC COS reporter is 70 cm and one or two of the Colorado Connection repeaters are 70cm. I have dual band and others are content with 2m. The Ft-2900 has that big heat sink since it is 75w max where the Ft-7900 is 50w max on 2m and 40 w max on 70 cm. I had the FT-7900 before I bought my Kenwood, Travis now has that radio, very nice radio IMHO.

If anyone is interested in getting their general ham license, W0TLM Tri Lakes Monument Radio Association is gauging interest in another general license class. The next class will be dependent on emails they receive, as to whether it will be a technician or general class.

Btw, if you guys get a chance, look up Xoverland South America on the YouTube channel. Great videos, and they use a lot of ham radio. Makes me want another Toyota.

I personally took this class. It’s a lot of information to crap into the time allotted, but it can be done. If you’re interested at all in getting on the HF airwaves, I recommend it.
