I picked up my Overland 1.8m tent today and figured out how I could mount it on the ARB full size roof rack.

This setup is temporary until I can install a rear tire carrier and then turn the tent sideways on the rack. I still have enough room for my 35" spare and gas cans up top this way, and the overhang is about 10" on each side - but still not wider than the tire stance, so I'm ok with it.

The ladder will extend 100% to the ground, but it gives a slight decline slope to that half of the tent floor, and it is so extended it feels unstable, so I don't like it that way. I won't be bringing my custom ladder base with me...so I'll have to park near a hill or something for now.

:P

What sort of support structure is there for the half of the tent that isn't mounted to the rack, when it's open?

The tent frame and canvas do most of the supporting. The ladder is like a kickstand to assist that side.

Never mind the 80... what's the story on the RX-7???:D (My first car was a '78 RX-7).

Nice looking tent!;)

The ladder has two height adjustment points. At the bottom is an extendable piece that adjusts in small increments. If this is extended all the way out, and it is still a bit short we can make it right... we have special extended feet that will provide an additional 12" or more.

Give me a call...

I'm guessing your wife wasn't home when you came up with the custom extension?

Shes the one that suggested it!

Its not any special table...just an extra old coffee table that was in the storage part of the garage.

I did extend the ladder to the max, but it makes for a missing rung about 12" up. I like the angle of the ladder as shown on the table. I'll take some more pics today since I have to open it back up and put the bedding back in.

Hilarious...

Ok, so I'm walking out to throw out some trash and I notice what looks like part of a tumbleweed has gotten stuck between my roofrack and the tent in back....

What the....its supposed to be an Autohome for ME, not him!

Here are a few more pics, and some questions.....

Here is the ladder fully extended. I believe the ladder is supposed to go to 87". I measured from the ground to the bottom of the white tent base and its exactly 90".

The front of my roofrack seems almost like a DECK up here...I like that.

Now my question involved the forward facing awning.

I found 2 of these poles which resemble the hinged rear awning poles. The rear awning poles swing forward and a 90 degree angle hook goes through the eyelets on the corner of the awning to hold it up.

The forward awning has 2 eyelets as well, so I assume the 90 degree hook goes into them......I don't see a place where the 45 degree end would stick in the tent?

I just found a pic.....is this like a custom option?

Ahh, found the forward awning holes. They were hiding under the bottom corner canvas flap on that side.
