Newby here, thanks for letting me post on this forun. Seems like a nice bunch of guys. Just finished an H55 swap in my '85 and I am really a happy guy. First gear is sweet with my 10.5x31s. It gets going much better and is really going to be nice on the trail! second, third, and fourth seem to be equal with the old tranny. 4th at 65mph is right at 3000rpm but 5th gets you down to 2000 @ 55, 2200 @ 60 and 2400 @ 65. I feel like I can actually cruise with the Cruiser @ 65 now without feeling like it was going to blow up at any moment. Got the tranny @ Cruiserparts.net for $1850 shipping included which was the best price I could find. Had to send the first one back because DHL droped it and broke the case in four places. All in all I am really happy to be able to breath new life into this old rig. Any body need a really nice 4 speed with only 82,000 on it? Cheep! firstlightphoto@mn.rr.com. If any of you are thinking of doing this swap, wait no longer it is a great deal better than the stock 4 speed?

Good for you. H55's are cool.

I wonder why they never came in the US cruisers?

I vote that this thread be pulled due to the fact that this has to do with a H55 and is directed to only people who have H55's.

What?!
It seems more directed at the people who do not yet have an H55-F.
Like me. :\

i want one....i want one....i want one....i want one....i want one....

Get in line, pal. :)

Hey, as an aside, did you have to take the manifolds off to get that P/S pump bracket off?
I'm finally going to get around to swapping it in and want to know how much of a PITA it's
going to be.
Thanks.

I didnt have to when I added a fj60 PS pump and bracket to my 82 fj40.......its wasn't easy but its doable.

The only thing between an FJ60 and an H55 is funds.

They were not available to USA market because they don't shift as smoothly-supposedly.

Hmm, grrrrr, ugh,

H55 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

No i didn't have to removed the manifold to get that PS bracket off. Simple bolt on.

My guess is that the national speed limit was 55 (big orange numbers on the speedo) and at 55 with stock gears and wheels I ran at about 2400 rpm.

Just my best guess.
