I have an insider at Toyota, so I already got a quote on a new H55. I was hoping for a used case ,but I might just buy one new if I can't find a used one.You do not want to buy a used h55f. If it needs any service at all you easily push yourself over the top of what a new one would cost. I've been there and done that and I've seen it happen many times. The used transmissions typically come from Australia or other places where they were used and abused. It is very unlikely that you would get one from Japan driven by a little old lady to the grocery store. Hit up orangefj45
You should REALLY listen to @ginericLCI have an insider at Toyota, so I already got a quote on a new H55. I was hoping for a used case ,but I might just buy one new if I can't find a used one.
I don't doubt that you have an insider at Toyota who can get you the transmission, everyone knows someone. Is your insider a Land Cruiser specialist? If not, save them for ordering a new radiator or other common parts. The reason I ask about your insider is there is more than one h55f, you also need to make sure you have the correct top plate for you application, and you will need the shifter and linkage parts as well. I've done this rodeo more than once and I can tell you that the great buddy deals from someone who isn't familiar with this particular swap will screw it up. You will end up with the wrong parts and you'll end up calling Georg (orangefj45) or Kurt and his crew (at Cruiser Outfitters) asking them why it won't go to together. I would do a new wanted ad looking for a split case. You can definitely save money buying a used case and then buying a rebuild kit for it. Also, this is just my opinion but people really get hung up on the 38mm case and that is fine but it isn't like there are 100s of 34mm failures popping up every day. Don't forget to order a 5th gear oiler. If it were me, I would just call Georg up and have him do the whole thing and have him ship it to me and put it in. No hassles. Georg does more Land Cruiser transmissions and transfer cases than anyone in the country. And he's reasonable. I bet his prices are within a couple hundred bucks of your insider and you'll know they are right. BTW I'm not affiliated with anyone I've mentioned in this post but I started screwing around with h55fs in 1998 and I've watched these disasters unfold over and over.I have an insider at Toyota, so I already got a quote on a new H55.
