The increased interior space alone in the 200 compared to the GX 550 is a huge factor.

Last I checked, the proven 3UR has more HP and that’s done on regular gas… the hypothetical increase in MPG is wiped out when you have to pay for premium gas…

Also, the v35 V6 is questionable at best when it comes to reliability. Spun rod bearings are appearing all over the place, plus the hose fittings have those crappy quick disconnects that always break 5 years down the road if you need to dig into the engine. It’s a much more disposable platform unfortunately.

If someone is buying based on interior space, then a Sequia would be the way to go.

Yes, the 3UR has the edge on HP, but the flat torque curve on the TT6 and 10 speed transmission make it feel quite a bit faster. I've only driven the LX600, but it felt noticeably quicker than a 200. I bet the TT6 tows really well too.

From what I have heard, the rod bearing issue was an initial manufacturing issue where an oil galley was not fully drilled and metal shavings were left behind, causing oil starvation. That has since been remedied. It would definitely be unfortunate to have that happen to a new $80k vehicle, but that is what warranties are for.

Saying a 3-4 year old 200 with a minimum of 20k mi put on by someone else and just out of the factory warranty is better than a new GX550 that tows more, has more HP and Torque, slightly better mileage, 10 year newer infotainment system and safety features, factory rear locker, E-KDSS, and still seats 8 with more compact dimensions does not make sense to me. I love my 200 and will not be getting rid of it when my GX allocation comes up, but other than proven reliability and currently better aftermarket support, a GX550 has it beat in all other areas. Long term reliability of the GX is TBD, but knowing Toyota, that is at least a 200k mi trouble free motor. Past gen GX's have been wheeled hard (seeing more and more on the Rubicon and in Moab) and seem to be holding up really well.

$82k for a fully optioned out Overland + is a bit steep, but you cannot compare that to the price of something that has not sold for new in years. That $82k from 4 years ago is now $92k inflation adjusted.
I hear you. My comment wasn’t intended to be taken for fact. That’s why I said the 200 was better “in my opinion”.

If I didn’t own a 200 or a 250/GX right now and had $85k to spend, I would still prefer to buy a 20k-30k mile heritage edition 200.

The spun rod bearing appears to be a design issue, not a metal shaving issue since Toyota has still not found a fix for it. People are seeing it on both the USA and Japanese made V35’s. They are keeping their lips sealed on the actual cause to not admit fault.

Good to know. I was under the impression it was a US manufacturing issues only.

I was looking back through this thread, I saw someone posted a link to a tool for tracking vins as LC's get built, but I can't seem to find it now?

Just for fun, I tried adding my allocation to the “My Toyota” app and it worked. However, the color I’m getting is supposed to be Meteor Shower (4V8), but the app shows Brown Sugar Metallic (4V8). I assume they are the same color, but with different names? Thought it was interesting.

I have a VIN and build sheet for my 1958 which should arrive in July. Was hoping to secure a GX allocation by now so I could compare them directly, but still waiting on the GX.

Looks like some more allocations popped up. My dealer has their first LC trim coming in (at a whopping 72k SRP) in the Heritage Blue color. That makes 3 total for my dealer and I'm supposed to be 6 on the list. Though I haven't heard from my salesman there.

I keep tabs on Longo Toyota and Longo Lexus websites as that is where I have a place in line for LC and GX. I’ve bought from the Lexus side before and they do a good job showing what is being built, in transit or on the lot. Note - they show them all, even if a unit is already tagged to a wait line customer.

For the GX they are showing 37 GX’s (2 in stock, 2 in transit, 33 in production). I’m around ~90 on the GX list so I have high hopes that once they start shipping in volume it should not be too long. In the mix the OT/OT+ is a little under the target of 40% (total) of volume. In looking at the color I saw a good mix, but no Nori Green in this first 37. Not surprising at all early in production.

For the Land Cruiser they are not showing any units yet, but called me earlier this week to let me know a Heritage Blue with Premium package will be there 6 - 8 weeks from now for my place in the wait list. I placed my LC refundable deposit very quickly after the announcement.

I’m heading up there on Sunday for their GX event to get another look at the GX. I saw a prototype at the Lexus experience last year and then last month saw a prototype that was in testing locally.

I’m expecting in the end I’ll go GX OT or OT+ over LC 250, we shall see.

Do you have the tracker info? I’d love to look mine up.

Finally got my hands and eyes on one.

Seeing this made me Eureka! that this is why Toyota accepted the goofy step up for the hybrid. It's similar for every other vehicle they make with the third row. Still a nasty trade-off to get a hybrid - but I can see how they normalized it in their design.

I'm going to miss the little screws and plugs in the third row step.

I wonder if the LC is going to get this extra seal to keep dirt off the rear wheel well arch. From the reviews thus far, no.

The lower rocker is no longer body color painted gloss. At least on this premium in Caviar, it was matte plastic to match the lower door cladding.

It drove nice. Moonroof has to go for someone with a torso like mine. Excess legroom for me.

With the revelations on the LC relative to the 4Runner this week, I'm on the GX list now. Now we wait for a bougie boomer that has to have a moonroof to vacate their Overtrail allocation.

My dealer let me know they have a 1958 and LC trim coming in late May. They didn't match what I'm looking for so I passed. LC is in Meteor Shower with the premium package, and the 1958 is white with basically no options. I got the impression they're not getting any FEs, unless they lied to me about being 1st in line.

I suspect the latter :)

What trim/options are you hoping for?

Glad to see Toyota is shipping 1958 editions (in white) with few add-ons (this is what I'm hoping to get into if I end up buying an LC this year. I'm on several wait lists here in Northern California and have been told by a couple of them that I should expect to hear from them in the next couple of weeks.
