Hey everyone! I've posted here before about my media mounts, but now its totally official. The mount will fit all GX470's that have the factory nav. These things are super popular over on the 100 series forum and people have come up with some cool nav/cell phone/ radio solutions using this bracket. Take a look:

Owl Expedition Media Mount

The can be purchased here:

OWL EXPEDITION

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of a GX with the bracket in, but I know it fits from the help of a couple GXers on here.

Feel free to ask any questions!

Here are some 100 series photos

So how does it install? Just slide into the tape player? In one picture it looks like it’s screwed down in the tape player.

Any other mounting options? Something that bolts to the side pieces of the center console or replaces/mounts on those plastic side pieces on the side of the radio?

Unfortunately I don't have a GX to work with or can find one locally. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a mounting location that's as secure and completely reversible than this one. Bolting to the sides of the radio would require cutting or drilling the dash trim or would use such thin metal it wouldn't be very secure. This using 12gauge steel screwed to the tape deck with the tongue resting on the frame of the tape deck (with a pad to prevent damage) is extremely strong.

You in Abq? I've got a 2005 if you need one for fitting .

Thanks for the offer! I know the mount fits now because I've sent some to a few out of state GXers. Just waiting on them to put some accessories on the mount so I can get some good photos.

Cross posting for sure, this is cool.

Didn’t work for me...

@Ramathorn15 How much weight do you think the mount can hold?

That's a great question and would depend on the configuration/leverage. I honestly don't think you could overload it unless you threw a huge laptop on it.

I have probably 2-3lbs on mine and have spent the last 2 years beating my truck on all the southern CO and NM trails. Enough to actually break my engine mounts. Havent had any issues with the mount at all since.

I think having it designed to where the tongue sits on the outside frame of the tape deck helps a lot. It should relieve a lot of the pressure off the screws. Even without that though, the posts are pretty heavy duty and are riveted into the body of the tape deck. It would take a lot to even rip those out individually with a pair of plyers (don't try that :hillbilly:)

@Ramathorn15 The screw are pretty small, and because the thickness of the mount means about 1/3 of the screws threads no longer engaged in the original mounting posts. I was thinking of getting some longer screws as additional insurance. As is, I suspect it would easily hold up to 2-3 tablets with out issue.

For those of us too squeamish to do fancy nav/non-nav conversion cable salad, it would be great if the bit inside of the cassette deck cavity was one of those tapes that enable AUX input via 1/8th in jack.

I know, I'm probably smokin'...
