Big Bear, haven't been there since the 70's. In San Diego had a shipmate and good friend that was from Anaheim he always said he was from Anal Slime. His father was a mason that helped build Disneyland and he did well for himself and family. They had a cabin on Big Bear and we would go there occasionally on the weekends to the family cabin and explore the area.

What I remember the most was coming back down on Sunday nights it was always bumper to bumper traffic. At one point you could see a long ways down the mountain in front down and to your right and it was always solid headlights. I'm thinking it probably hasn't gotten much better in the last 50 years. But that is pretty much the whole Country in most places.

Traffic on Highway 38 has not gotten better. But depends when you go. Go skiing early on a weekday, and come down early, no issues.

On wintery weekends I honestly just recommend to my friends that we just go to Mammoth instead. From East LA to it could be 3+ hours each way to Big Bear and it's really only a little bit more (+ an easier drive) to get to a way better mountain for snow sports.

Some pictures from Loveland today.

Being down on the coast right next to Camp Pendleton, Mammoth is a 5 plus hour drive for us. If we do that, we'll just push through another 3 hours and stay up in Tahoe and ski Heavenly for a couple weeks with our Epic season passes! 😆
Just a heads up if you have all you squids, fly boys, ground pounders:
  1. If you're in the military, maybe even retired
  2. Ski/snowboard/use ski lifts for mountain biking, etc.
  3. Live around an Epic ski resort: Epic Pass Regions and Resorts | Epic Season Pass - https://www.epicpass.com/regions.aspx
Being an Army reservist, our last season passes from 2 years ago (didn't go last year on account of knee replacement) for my wife and were $170.00 each FOR THE SEASON!. Note, there are no restrictions on these passes!
I don't know what the price for them this year is, but if you want to get them, now is the time to start looking into it for next year. Also, if I recall, the best time to purchase is in the spring. As it gets later in the year, the prices will bump up a wee bit.

I didnt know you got a GX. Nice!
Would love to get another ride together sometime. Been too long.
I did. I went full on car whore for a while there but I think I've stabilized with the GX. I've been doing some versions of that loop near Danville with it and it does pretty great. Let's ride!

Coworker and good friend and his wife are there now they left last Wednesday. Friday got this text from him it is all about perspective

Man, we haven't had Jack squat for any type of moisture since early last summer. We'll take it, even in March.

Yeah in a meeting last week one of the guys who lives just outside the Valley said it has been more than 180 days since they had any rain. That is a long time even West of the Missouri River in the sagebrush sea. Hope you all get more and soon!

More lined up this week, but we've seen it in the forecast before, only to up and disappear like a fart in wind.
