Drove up to Stove Prairie Landing, this was on the way just north west of Loveland, past Devils Backbone

Man, I moved to Colorado when I was 18, graduated high school, packed my skis and headed west. Landed for a couple weeks at my friends dorm room in Greeley, Devils Backbone was the first hike I ever did in the rocky mountain state, still remember it vividly more than 20 years later.

Nice! Yeah it's a great hike for flatlanders. Only 330' of elevation change.

Some more fun pics from truckhaven.

We go to savannah frequently to visit family. I love seeing all the rust free old toyotas down there. Last time I was in town I saw a RHD Prado, beautiful.
I've never been there before. I've been close, on a motorcycle trip back in 2010, but never actually there until now.

Now that I have... It may be my favorite city I've ever been to... Definitely will be back and will budget several days here instead of just one.

We took the day we had and rode around on our bicycles, and this further corroborated my belief that, as much as I generally hate bicycle riding, there is no better way to explore an urban area (especially a flat one!) than with a bike.

We also went to Fort Pulaski, which was super cool.

Heading down to Florida now with my wife driving... This is the first time she's driven the GX since I got it! I'm splitting my passenger seat time navigating, surfing, and reading a book that sure seems familiar...

Gotta love old books! The musty smell, the tanned and chipped pages.
We have a library with hundreds of books, many over 100 years old and first editions.
Reading on a tablet or from a computer screen just doesn't work for me.

I generally order them off EBay, the best ones arrive just like that one... Tattered and ripped apart from being read so often.

I could definitely live in Savannah if it wasn't for the heat.

Heat is bad enough in the Lowcountry but that humidity, ugh.

In the late 80's took a Gator Freighter (USS Hermitage LSD-34) up the Savannah River. It was a joint forces experiment out of Little Creek, Va. to see about saving money by consolidating Special Forces. Army Combat Engineers to lay floating bridges from the ship to shore for the Army Rangers, Marine Recon and Navy Seals onboard. To enter the swamp up River. Fun times, not. Piedmont area is even hotter and more humid for the most part though.

I've purchased many of our books from AbeBooks | Shop for Books, Art & Collectibles - https://www.abebooks.com/?&ref_=ps_ggl_50675655&cm_mmc=ggl-_-COM_US_Brand-_-naa-_-naa&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsOq6BhDuARIsAGQ4-ziErIafa8IlRjOEoZXdK1OgAOSvbMn2_hUm5XDRDR4Wo6xz9Zz0NUUaAr9HEALw_wcB
Although some of their books can be pricey if you have to have first editions or early first editions.

I'm a sucker for a used bookstore. I've got an ever-growing list of books I want to read, but I really enjoy browsing shelves and finding something I hadn't considered before. I only resort on ordering online if I can't find it in one of my 3 local shops, particularly new releases.

Take a day trip to Ojai sometime, go to Bart's Books, and prepare to spend a day in my favorite store. It's a house in a residential area that they've converted, but they use the outdoor spaces as well. Nice and rare books are kept indoors, with kitchen cabinets filled with cookbooks and a bedroom dresser full of romance novels. I once picked up a book in their California History section and was happily thumbing through it. I flipped back to the front and saw it had a price tag over $1000 and was published in the 1800s. I gingerly returned it to its shelf and went back outside where the $1 paperbacks are kept. It's a very unique space with an amazing collection for sale.

Okay, you had to open that door....
Since you live in L.A., have you ever been to the Last Book Store?
Amazing!

Amazing spot, but not exactly quaint. It's a great place to lose track of time.

ETA: here's a pic of Bart's backyard. Truly one of a kind.

These are the types of places you want to go to on a cold, cloudy/drizzly/rainy day and just get lost for a few hours.
Find a good classic, bring it back home and torch up the fireplace! (we're lucky to have a wood burner where we live! ;)}

Yup, there is great tiny bookstore in Grand Marais, Minnesota that I love. Grab a book to read in whatever cabin or lodge suite we rented up on the gun flint.
