Shoutout to AbeBooks, I've been ordering used books from them since 2009 (college textbooks at a fraction of the price of new at the time) and still buy from them semi-regularly. Working my way through the last "haul" from earlier in the year which was <$20 and would have cost easily >$200 had I purchased them new.

A week working in Moab 😎

Is that a camera boom on top of and hanging off the front of that F150 (F250)?

Yes, a very, very, very setup Raptor built for high speed filming.

Bringing this thread back to ask how much articulation/movement the rear KDSS sway moves on and off road.

After about 9k miles on my current tires, I decided to see if I can fit one in the spare now after 9K miles worth of driving. To my surprise, I was able to get it to fit, with about a single finger width between the tire and the KDSS sway bar, about a little less than half an inch of space. Both sides are roughly the same distance apart from the sway bar.

3 questions

  1. How much does the sway bar move and is a little half an inch of room enough so it clears the tire?
  2. I don't want to rotate the spare at this point if it fits. Let's say in 30K miles of driving, I get a flat and I need to use the spare, will I run into issues running this spare with my other tires that have more wear on them? I can't image the difference between 9k miles on the spare and 40K on the other tires will cause an issue but wanted to confirm.
  3. I did a front bumper trim cut to the foglights so I can probably run slightly bigger tires now. If I go up to 275/70/17, can I use this spare if need or is the different too much? People that have trimmed the bumper, what's the biggest size tire you can run without having to do a BMC?
See pics.

Depends on the roads and trails you drive.

Owners manual covers the variance side to side and front to back. You could probably limp home with it if it wasn't too far but you wouldn't want to do that permanently.

Greetings from The Post at The Stanley Hotel.

What happened? Hiding from the "in-laws" for the holidays while at the Stanley Hotel??
Wait!! What's the address?? I wanna join you!!!
That's too fancy for me. We are staying at these cabins. They are good value. I like rustic stuff a bit.

slow cooking some bacon while it warms up outside so we can do a few hikes in Rocky Mountain NP. I highly recommend visiting during the week in the off season.

I got invited to a wedding in Estes next April. As my frequent nostalgia posts here have made apparent, I haven't been home for quite a while and I miss it. I'm looking forward to my trip, but a little apprehensive about the timing and circumstances. I won't be able to visit my favorite places that early in the year, and there is a tension between me returning to my homeland and me hanging out with my college buddies (who aren't from there). They all want to get a big house in Estes for a week, but I want to spend more time in Nederland/Blackhawk. I want to show my daughter where I came from, but this probably won't be a good opportunity with everything else going on. My biggest concern is that after this is over I won't really have a reason to go back again, so I want to make it worth while.

Not sure how I want to play it, but I've saved that link to the cabins just in case. Thanks!

If you could do a second trip, I would. There is so much to see and do. I know that may not be possible. I would do a fall trip after tourist season, it would bookend the spring visit. Also be way cheaper.

Also, you can get stuck behind folks who drive slower than.... so you always have to factor in extra drive time for that as well as congestion.

Before all this came up, I was thinking of driving out there in June as I used to do almost every spring. Take the scenic route through the Grand Canyon and Durango, maybe do some wheeling along the way. Get some run-down cabin near Rollinsville, and spend a week up in Mammoth Basin or Rollins Pass. Camp out in the Indian Peaks for my birthday and solstice. I had it all mapped out.

I'm happy for my buddy, and it'll be good to see my old friends who've scattered around the country, but none of this was on my agenda.

You'd need a month's worth of vacation time to really enjoy what you'd like to do.
View it as something to look forward to when you become empty nesters and retire!
Then (depending up budget) you can spend an entire season up there, maybe even with grandkids too!:bounce::bounce2::clap:

You don't even know idiot traffic until the aspens change. I'll take I-405 at rush hour over the Peak to Peak highway during Aspen season. I remember being late to school and explaining that I got stuck behind someone who drove the entire length of Boulder Canyon at 10mph.

That sounds nice.

I haven't visited my Mom in Seattle since 2016. I hadn't visited my Dad in Alaska since 2009 prior to my trip last June. I tend to take epic California road trips when I occasionally get time off, so these family obligations get pushed further and further down the list. Colorado feels like a "family obligation" trip, even though none of my family still lives there. I feel really guilty telling my elderly mother about my travel plans, knowing she hasn't seen her grandchild since she was a baby. I'm so overdue for all these trips, but I keep pining for the NorCal coast and Trinity Alps too. Eventually, I gotta get to Chile and Patagonia, because that's the absolute top of my bucket list. So much to do, so little time. Colorado's in April, that's all I really know for sure.

After climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mt Whitney and other local pinnacles. So one of my bucket list was wanting to do the "7 Summits", being the highest mountain on every continent. Now I'm too old and out of shape. But like you I have a Dad in Texas I need to scrape together a block of time to visit.
That, along with a long list of other travels are swirling around in my 'bucket' waiting to be pulled out and executed. The Alaska cruise this year was one of them.

Did you climb Denali while you were up there?

Yeah, me neither. I didn't even make it to the summit of Flattop.

Denali is the highest in North America, while Whitney is the highest in the lower 48. Don't think for a moment it didn't cross my mind!
I did Kilimanjaro when I was much younger, in my 40's. There's still a bunch of fourteener's in the Sierra's around Whitney that I wouldn't mind trekking.
