I believe it's due to their very low CG, considering all the batteries are on the floor board/pan/chassis.
Not to mention their gobs of horsepower!

Also invidual drive motors that act as lockers and open diffs all at the same time. I have some friends who coach their offroad drivers. Absolutely nuts performance.

I was looking at a set of 17x8.5 Kensei Roku HD wheels to go with 265/70/17 Falkens and want to minimize any rubbing body or not. They are 10 offset.

never seen anyone put a 265 on that negative of an offset, it’s usually 285+. I’ve run that size on stock wheels with no issues but I know that’s not your question. The more negative the offset the higher chance of rubbing sooo.. but hey they will look great. (No sarcasm, I run -10 on my rig)

I think the Kansei also come in a 0 offset. I might also do some Methods with the +25 offset but right now I'm really just trying to understand better the impact of offset and rubbing before I really decide on my setup. Even tire size im still all over the board. I am not a big time off-roader mostly fire trails and the beach but mostly daily driver so I dont need a big setup. I've been playing with all the offset calculators but unfortunately none of them show me the bolt or the fender well .

Is there an "optimal" offset for 265/70/17 wheels to minimize rubbing? I think the GX is 25 right? Or -25? Trying to reshoe and at the same time not wanting to BMC. Bolt and fender massage is fine, but just wondering if offset would also help. Found a set of wheels that are 10 offset that I like but don't want to make things worse with the wrong offset.

265/70/17s with a +10 offset have plenty of clearance for anything hard or expensive (body mount, washer fluid resevoir, etc) under the fenders. You may have to remove the bottom bolt or do a little trimming/shaping where the sideskirt meets the fender lining but that's it.

If you havnt checkout out his channel i reccomend you do so. Explains these things in simple easy to understand but backed by real “science”. This episode talks about offset and such, in relation to fitting bigger tires. Might not be the end all be all for you, but it may help. One suggestion would be to try some spacers that bring you to 0 or -10 and see how the 265s fit, before spending the money of new wheels.

I have 265/70R17 Falken Rubitreks on 17x8.5 Method 0 offset wheels. I had to heat and massage the plastic liner for clearance but was able to avoid cutting it. The tires stick out just a little past flush to the body.

Falken Rubitreks and Wildpeaks are a bit larger diameter than other tires the same nominal size.

Thanks. It’s a Ronin Metalworks rear bash bar that’s been bashed a lot lol. They no longer make it. It was mostly for look anyway.

You got a build thread or anything with info on the RCLT set up on your GX?

No. Install of RCLT was done by Marlin Crawler. Install is normal like the 5th Gen T4R. No spacers or new motor mounts needed to clear the oil pan like the 470. Only clearancing they had to do was to the driver side engine mount for the steering shaft.

There's actually apparently some software limitations that don't allow it to act like a truly locked truck when crossed up - something about it still having logic about the front and rear being "axles" and trying to pull power instead of limiting or removing slip.

Something they're working on but still relatively low priority as most people don't drive the truck like my friend does. It does help that we have a direct line to Rivian as one of their engineers was on the trip with us with a lifted Jeep XJ Cherokee.

Along with opening up the wheel wells for some proper 37's! Or at least some after market fenders.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the next generation of EV trucks/off roady things add some kind of true low range ability because they still haven't really figured out how to make the EVs crawl. I think the assumption was that wouldn't be necessary because instant torque and motor control at each wheel make it theoretically obsolete. However in practice, having all the torque delivered slowly is different than having all the torque delivered instantly. They may be able to do this by sciencing the motors and allowable wheel speeds, but they also may just do something similar to what Porsche has in the Taycan with its 2 speed final drives.

Another way may be adding another throttle range that allows a much long pedal throw for power. Doing this would allow the linear power to be applied through a much longer range.
