Been busy the past few days.......
- Got the 100W solar panel installed on the stock crossbars. I was going to make some out of strut but I am no "fabricator" and it was not working out. So I said screw it and just drilled through the stock bars.
- Took it for a test drive and no noticeable noise. I even popped the moon roof open and couldn't tell it was up there.
- Can't really see it from the ground other than the 2 wires on the passenger side.
- Got the wood "floor" installed (4x4 piece of 1/2" plywood cut to fit) and got the base of the drawers put back in.
- Installed the Renogy 40A MPPT solar charger controller on the back of the drawers and wired up. @THEOZMAN 's taps came in handy and made wiring it easy.
- I was able to move the drawers towards the front of the truck so now if I want to install a table or something on the rear door I can. Before the drawers were right up against the door.
- Plenty more to do but I am headed to Hot Springs, AR on Wed for the Razorback Ramble. So, today I have been prepping the camper and trailer which haven't been touched in 8 months...... Unfortunately I will be taking the buggy and not the GX. It's gonna be hot out there boys and girls.........

On a serious note, really like how you did your solar panel. I have 4 (3 now) of the rigid kind but broke one of the panels. Don't really like something that fragile.
I also really like the one that's attached to the front hood!
I know your solar panel is good for 100 watts (in perfect sunlight), but is that enough to keep a small fridge going for several days? I'm thinking I need at least four of those panels to keep my fridge going indefinitely without drawing down my second "house" battery.

Kevin at SSO is running a similar flexible panel on MegaLex and runs his fridge in it 24 / 7. He parks it in the shop sometimes, under the carport at home, in the shade where he can, etc and has never had an issue. I am going to do the same thing and see how it goes. I carry a Noco jump box so if it kills the battery that's fine. I already scored a brand new deep cycle marine battery that I am prepared to mount in the back if I have to.
And I like the one for the hood too.....but not the price......
Very nice! Which panel did you use? Am thinking about installing a few on my RTT to keep my battery charged so I can keep my fridge going 24x7 as well. I was keeping it plugged in all the time when home, but not an option anymore.

I used a cheap one from Amazon. I wanted one that was cheap, thin and flexible. This one checked the boxes.

That's great to hear that it'll keep a fridge going! I agree, I love the hood mounted one but wow! The price is a little hard to swallow.
I have the same thing in case I ever draw my batteries down to not being able to start my rig. From Amazon I have the Beatit G18 QDSP 2000Amp. So far it's been amazing! Compact, easy to store and after I do a jump I can plug into my USB to recharge while driving!
Not terrible, but it's there ... the windshield helps, but it doesn't eliminate the noise. Once you hit around 60mph, it gets a little noisy, but nothing compared to the prinsu-type rack on my tacoma with a rifle case. If the stereo is on, the noise is pretty minor. For the price, I'm pretty happy with the crossbars, but it seems like they could have gone with a different design to eliminate noise and also increase functionality.

LOL. By the way, people comment on this set up quite a bit. It’s a redneck Hilton. And with heat and a/c it’s the bomb for sure. Best part is I had this set up parked at a friend’s house who lives on a river. Long story but due to some freak storm the river rose over 18’ and over flowed it’s banks by about 8’ completely submerging my trailer and camper. I was ready to scrap it. But I popped it open, took everything out that I could, let it dry out, washed it down and it’s still keeping me out of the elements 3 years later.
I don’t use the original electrical anymore but the a/c still runs (I had to change out one switch). Oh and the canvass is original. Title says it’s a 1990 model. LOL. love it. how much do you think the whole trailer set up weighs? can you pull it with the GX?

Not a chance. Tongue weight is well over 1000 lbs because of the camper. This is definitely for the Tundra to pull. Never weighed it but I am guessing the trailer and camper are around 4k and with my fat ass LX , I was pushing the 10k limit of the Tundra.

wow. that's deceptively heavy. seen a couple of those home brewed "redneck toy haulers" on facebook marketplace and always wondered what approximate weight would be.

Agreed! This little place was nice to test everything out and see what works and what doesn't. Got a reno trip planned with some fun fire trails and the fun one will be Pismo Beach at the end of the month!

OT: who's been up to the High Sierra this year? What are conditions looking like?
I was thinking of trying Spanish Trail (near Shaver Lake) in a couple weeks, but looks like it won't open until 7/1. I can always go up to the Kern Plateau/Monache, but I'm hoping to find something new that isn't snowed in or burned up. My Dad is flying down from Alaska for a 3-4 day trip and I want to show off my mountains. Open to suggestions.

We used to go to Huntington Lake every year to race Hobie Cats and would sometimes go and check out the China man's cabin. The miner that China Peak is named after. Once you locate his cabin on a map and get the GPS, you can find trails to get there. Not difficult, but great country and then topping it off to see something waaaay off the beaten path when you find his cabin. The cabin is a hewn log cabin and in pretty bad shape, but it should be there. We was there about 5 years ago.
It's not something many people know about so it's not visited often which part of what makes it so cool.
