Similar, but not nearly as many CD's. Before that cassettes, and before that, 8-tracks. When car audio started to come with thumb drives I'd copy my favorite tunes to USB drives, so when off roading, when the CD's started to skip on every stink'n bump I'd plug in the thumb drive!
Now I don't even use that! We use Spotify, and I have a several music lists downloaded from there to my phone. If the signal gets spotty, Spotify just reverts to saved selections!

Wonder what'll be next???
I'm such a Luddite, this car is perfect for me. I still use a 1st gen iPod through the head unit (decent UI, better than the silly iWheel). I keep a DVD of The Last Waltz in the player and it's come in handy when I'm waiting around. Many years ago, I installed a DVD player in a Subaru SVX and I would sit in the parking lot of the laundromat and watch shows every weekend. Last time I used the player in the truck I was waiting at the airport. It's a fun novelty.

My POS daily driver Honda has Android Auto, so I stream music and podcasts on my commute. Driving the truck brings along a touch of nostalgia thanks to my aging music collection.

When stuck waiting in my rig for something/one I too will go to my phone and watch one of our shows on a streaming app (Netflix, Amazon, etc.)
It is a cool novelty, especially with the sound coming through the GX's great sound system, even if the screen is small.

I have only just begun to move into the streaming world lately... been waiting for the tech to mature a bit so I can understand it :)

I recently bought a music streamer for the audiophile setup at home, and also learned how to stream podcasts and such for the long drives out west (just got back from a Wyoming/Colorado/Utah overloading trip). I am so tech-savvy now...

Lol, my tube amp is fed by the analog out of my OLED TV. Eico for the win!

Aluminum right now is brutal.

As to the fitment, I have seen worse, I get your gripe given that it ain't cheap, however if it doesn't make a ton of noise I wouldn't worry about it. ETA I am not sure I want it touching my paint anyhow. Looks like a great spot to have end up warn through to metal.

yeah I agree with this concern.... the weather stripping is going to prevent a scratch on install, but the wind is going to cause that sheet metal to move, the sheet metal is going to move that weather stripping against the paint and eventually, it's going to wear through the paint. The only solution I see is keeping a gap between the paint and the rack, though obviously that isn't ideal from a noise perspective.

Good news: Nothing on my front shock was stuck or broken. The add-on knob for rebound adjustment needed to be tightened onto the shock so that it would actually do something. Having tightened that on the passenger front I can now make adjustments and my issue was some combination of too much front rebound and too little low speed compression. I've made some adjustments there and my teeter-totter issue is dramatically improved.

Bad news: I need to track down a clunk from the rear suspension and may have to forego all the July 4th sales on aftermarket parts I don't need to instead pay for some maintenance stuff I do need.

While I don't disagree with the fairing moving, the weather stripping should isolate the fairing movements from the vehicle movements because the part of the weather stripping that contacts the paint is hollow and flexible (kinda like a few ex's I've had) and shouldn't move too much. Put Victory does suggest PFF where the rack contacts the paint, which might need to get examined every few years for wear.

When I was looking into 4runners I saw some people replace their mirrors with Rav4 mirrors for the added Blindspot it offered. Are there any mirror sizes out there in the Lexus/Toyota family that will fit our GX460 housings that have a blindspot? Is there an aftermarket product that most people here use if not? I installed some stick on blindspot mirrors for my wife's CRV and I'm not a fan. Maybe I picked up some POS ones.

FWIW the fairing for my Prospeed roof rack doesn't make any contact with the roof and any additional wind noise is only noticeable if the sun roof cover is open.

I hadn't realized there was an interior refresh, much better looking. (I don't care for tech and this still blows the pants off the older interiors. Why they still have a CD player, we will never know.
It's also a DVD player FYI. I have a Naviks unit installed so I can view movies while in motion.

Looks like I need new pads and rotors which would be ~$950 installed from my local Lexus dealer. This is annoyingly more than I want to spend for convenience but also not nearly expensive enough to instead justify buying a big brake kit.

Brakes are pretty low on the list of things that I would consider a dealer for servicing. KDSS, yeah for sure. Brakes, ahh not so much.

Yea I can get new OEM rotors and OEM or better pads for like $3-400 and knock it myself in a couple hours. I was just hoping it would be a more ridiculous number so I could explain to my wife that for only a little bit more we could get a 4 wheel big brake kit...for safety...

I made the mistake of buying off-brand pads and rotors about 5k miles ago. The rotors are already warped, and the pads throw tons of dust onto the wheels. So I got the old OEM rotors resurfaced last week and I'm preparing to reinstall them with some OEM pads during my oil change in the next month or so. Live and learn, I guess. I've had good results from the same brand on the past, but I guess the Lexus likes it fancy. Still loads cheaper than having the stealership do it, I was quoted $1200 by my local franchise. I could do it again every 6 months and still never hit that price.

Just curious if you know what you bought? I really don't like the way the brakes bite so I want to switch mine up and make sure I don't pick some bum parts. I was planning on doing Brembo Blanks with some flavor of EBC pad.

I suspect some of the reason your not liking the bite is due to the wear. I would just recommend starting with a set of fresh OE pads and trying those before going with anything more aggressive.

I too have played that game with my wife. Try to justify a bigger/better upgrade than just replacing with stock!
Hope your wife doesn't read your posts!!!!o_O

Is there a big brake kit that makes sense for a late model 460? Thought their rotors were 330mm which is about as big as you can get with 17s. I guess you could get 350mms with 18s

I was hoping Lexus service would be expensive enough that I could answer that question.

I think on a 460 with 17s you'd be looking at the same diameter, but thicker rotors and better calipers. I don't know that $3000+ of Stoptechs or whatever would be actually be worth it objectively but it would look sick and that's the most important thing.

Finally got around to doing a paint correction on our new to us 2017 GX Starfire Pearl. It looked fine in most light as the Starfire Pearl always seems to, but when the sun hit it right it was evident that it needed some love.

For funsies I purchased the new Hercules Forced Rotation DA polisher from Harbor Freight as I had heard good reviews, and found that the clearcoat on the Starfire is VERY hard (this is my opinion, I don't have a lot of experience!) as my Lake Country Orange Pad and Meg's 105 compound wasn't getting a lot of the scratches out.

So I switched to the forced rotation polisher with a microfiber pad, and that really gave me the bite and heat I needed to get the majority of the imperfections out. The next step would be a rotary and wool pad, but I'm not that confident and the results were very good imho. Followed it up with a white pad and Meg's 205, then Mother's CMX ceramic spray. Roughly 6-7 hours into the process.
