Was wondering if anyone noticed any problems with atrac handling the larger front gx460 calipers installed on a 470. Seems the larger pistons require more slightly fluid to move -- does this create any noticeable change in how the atrac computer manages wheel spin up front? Less effective or delays, etc?

I'm not suggesting this is accurate at all, buy just a hypothesis. There's probably a parameter set from the factory to account for variances. My guess is the difference between a 470 caliper and a 460 caliper is similar to a worn brake pad and a new one. With the 460 rotor being thicker, the caliper would actually be doing less work and piston isn't compressing as much.

BUT, that's just a guess.

A 460 caliper goes with the 460 rotor. The pads are the same for both 460 and 470 calipers so the only meaningful difference is the thickness of the rotor and thus the distance between the pads increases. The pistons in the caliper are almost certainly the same size and would move the same amount, just farther apart. No effect on ATRAC at all

Is the caliper and rotor the only thing that has to be swapped? Is there an upgrade to the 460 parts to look for? What pads do you suggest? Direct swap?

To clarify if you do 460 calipers you have to do 460 rotors as well. Like I said, the 460 rotor is thicker which is what prevents warping. As far as install, the upgrade is for front only and all you need is new pads, rotors, and calipers. Also only up to a certain year will fit but 5th gen 4runner calipers are the same part# up to that year as well. For pads personally I love the EBC greens I installed but they aren't cheap. No squeaking, no warping, and tons of stopping power on them.

Great upgrade. Probably the first thing you should do because you will be adding weight if you have the GX virus.

I know I just saw it somewhere on here, but I can't find it. Is there a specific year model 460 to specify in order to get the calipers and rotors? And is there a better place to buy from?

You need to double check but its 10-14 I think. Also 4runner calipers from those years are the same as well when I checked part numbers from lexus to toyota.

I just installed the Napa powder coated calipers (they were 20% off). I went with their Advanced One premium towing pads and rotors and Stoptech stainless braided brake lines. So far there are no issues, no ATRAC lights and the stopping is improved over my worn OE Toyota parts.
