Anyone here own both GX 460 and LC 200(2013 and up)? I was just wondering if there was ever a time when you were driving your GX and thought to yourself " I should've used the LC". What made you think that?

My GX has MTS and Crawl Control installed but for some reason i still have that wanting for an LC 200 series(2013- and up). I wonder if this is just because i've always wanted a full sized Land Cruiser. I wish i could rent one for a week and see if i really like it. Since i can't i'll just ask here

I believe the newer (later) LC200's come with a 5 position Crawl Control and MTS.
You may want to re-post this on the 200 series forum and see what they think also.
For myself and my wife, we came into GX460 from two 100 series LC's (his and hers).
With the Hundy, we felt the reduction in interior space a little but it was not a game changer for us. But on the same note, I did notice the GX was easier to maneuver on trails, since the GX460 shares the same platform as the 5th Gen 4Runner.
With that being said, the 200 series is considerably larger than our old 100 series.
So I guess the question to you is, how much interior space do you need while possibly reducing your trail capabilities?
If you're empty nester's like my wife and I, the GX is perfect with the RTT and everything we need to be self contained. But if you still have kiddies, maybe the larger LC is the way to go?

A friend has a LC200 and we have talked about our respective vehicles quite a bit.

A 200 is a bit bigger, but not dramatically so IMO. The GX gets slightly better mpg in stock form, but he said the 200 uses regular gas, not premium like the GX. I think the tow rating is higher for the 200.

One thing I found odd is the GX has better headroom, which is something I struggle with as a tall person with a long torso.

I guess the bottom line is I have not really wished I had a 200. The GX works great for me, but it is also worth noting that I am single so just don't feel the need for a larger vehicle.

I don't own both, just a GX470. I do think the extra power of the 5.7 would be appreciated for towing, along with the larger vehicle size. My 470 does tow just fine, but it would probably be more effortless to tow with a 200. We also have 2 kids under 10 and the GX works fine as a family hauler.

At least in my area, a 200 would be close to worthless for actual wheeling due to body damage potential. My 470 is really too big for the trails here. For wheeling on tight trails in the East I think a GX is a better machine simply due to size.

If money were no object, I would own a 200. For most of us, where money does matter, I'm personally not sure if the cost premium for a 200 is worth it when lightly used, late model 460s can be found for $30-50K.

IIRC: Crawl on the ‘08-‘11 200s is 3 speeds, MTS was introduced on 2013 models as well as the Rear Tire Control Assist to lock a rear wheel for tighter turn

460 crawl is 5 speeds, 2010-2019 MTS is 4 mode and 20-23 has an auto function in addition to the 4 modes

I always have to remember the missing 2012 model year in North America anyway

At the time I wanted to 200 series but got the GX for a song and dance. Now? The 200s have come down in price considerably. I would 100% spend more and get one. The power difference going up to the 5.7 is worth it alone... not to mention better aftermarket. Ive been seeing fully built 200s with ~150k going for mid $30s... and if you're afraid of mileage why bother with a Toyota?

I have entertained picking up a LX 570 … a ‘15 or the ‘16+

This wouldn’t replace my 460
Back in 2017-2018 when we were looking to replace our 100 series Landcruisers, I had started wanting and looking at the 200 series, but back then they were still quite expensive, used. And for sure I didn't want a 4R. Then came across the GX460's. It was Goldilocks perfect! Just the right size, just the right price and still a V8 but with more comfort features.
Now that they've come down in price... Yeah, probably still wouldn't mind a 200, until I got on the trails.

Every once in a while I consider getting out of my 460 and replacing it with an early 200. I love how they look, drive, sound, and the extra interior space would be extremely helpful with a 2.5 y/o and another due in March. The GX's second row is fine for the kid as of now but there's surprisingly little "extra space" between a large car seat and the back of the front seats when adjusted comfortably for my 5'10" self. More than passable, but just something I've noticed driving a plethora of other vehicles.

& then I take my 460 on the Northeast trails and realize the extra 4" of width and 700-800 lbs worth of vehicle would definitely make for a more difficult on-trail experience.

Still, if I had a magic wand, my 460 would be replaced with a 200 HE...

This is me. I wish I had a 200 because I want to be able to comfortably tow 5000lbs. I wanted a 200 when I bought my GX but the price was too much for the mileage and year. Almost went with a LX570 but the $27K I paid for a 2014 GX with 70K might have gotten me a 2009 LX with 150K so it just wasn't worth the tradeoff. The actual LC was substantially more than the LX too.

2016 GX460 and 2017 LX570 here

Put 140k miles on the GX and close to 70k miles on our LX.

The GX460 is the perfect daily driver, proper 4x4 ever!

Modern enough to not lack in comfort/safety. Reliable. Perfect size. Ours is lifted on Dobinsons and has some other accessories that make it more useful daily but also enhanced its offroad abilities.

Im 6’6” and have more space in our GX.

The handful of things I prefer on the LX:

Tail gate (on some days. The side folding seats take up alot of space though)

Power when towing

Adjustable suspension.

we shipped our GX overseas for the next few years so im dailying the LX now. Will never sell the 200 but if it was between a GX or LX again, id buy another GX in a heartbeat

I am considering a LX570 as my next DD when the GX is paid off and can become a trail rig.

I commute up I25 to Cheyenne, Wyoming and it is windy AF. I figured an LX would handle it even better than a GX.

Why can't you rent one? Turo or similar "owner-rented" sites surely have them available.

Edit, okay, maybe not. I just searched for one in CT and there are no results. Boooo!!!!!!

What year 460 do you have?

My search shows they have the same headroom at 38 inches. which is not great. My relatively tiny '95 Hardbody has 39.

I find it somewhat comical that for so many years Toyota shortchanged the Land Cruiser on legroom, yet provided plenty of headroom. With the modern ones they've reversed the deficit.

2018
All I know is with the seat all the way down in a LC200 my hair brushes the ceiling, which is annoying. I don't have that issue with the GX, even with the seat elevated a bit.

Same with the 5th Gen 4Runner. I'm only 6'4", and there's a surprisingly high number of cars that I rule out because I just don't fit, or can't see out the windshield. Frustrating... LS 460, most ES 350's older Highlanders, the list goes on.

I cross shopped both pretty heavily. The 200 is better but not by much. I honestly felt like the 460 delivered 75-85% of the 200 goodness at nearly half the price. Both ride and handle similarly, both have KDSS and full time 4WD with center locking diff. GX is the better city cruiser, 200 is better on the highway.

200 has more power with it’s 5.7. More interior space/comfort, a split tailgate, greater towing capacity and overall utility, and the name plate to boot. 460 has nicer interior materials, a slightly quieter cabin, slightly better mpg and range. Also if you get a 2022-2023 model you get the refreshed interior which I personally prefer with its button layout, OEM CarPlay/AA, etc.

In the end I went with the 200 because I wanted to see what owning an LC was all about and I also preferred the styling as well compared to the GX. As far as value, I would have spent nearly as much modding a late model 460 with bumpers, sliders, lift, wheels, tires, etc to achieve the look I wanted that I would have spent just as much as what my 200 cost me.
