So, am I to understand that a fully loaded 80 (people+luggage+gas) + trailer weight can be a max amount of a whopping 6470 lbs? Hell, my 80 weighs more than that on out of town trips  So much for towing that UHAUL trailer!

Where did you get that figure from? IIRC, the Max GVWR including trailer is something like 11000lbs.

On the side of my door! I was expecting a similar number too.

I knew your vehicle was unsafe Ali! :D

Your's weighed in at 6800 lbs right? That's quite a bit...

wight with trailer is GCVW, Gross Combined Vehicle Weight

GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating witch is the max the 80 with its payload can weigh (80+people+fluids+cargo) no trailer.

The bigger question is...what are the gross axle weight ratings? I know that some will argue and that's fine, but most of the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks going down the road with the 5th wheel hooked up are over the GVWR, however, they are good to go on the axles and GCWR. So I guess you have to decide if you feel safe going down the road overloaded.

I did see that the max trailer weight is 5,000 lbs with the "tow" package in my owners manual. So, let's see 5,000 + 6470 = 10,470 lbs. I'm assuming this is how some folks are coming up with 11,000 lbs or so for a total rating?

Eventually, we'll have to tow some of our junk from IL to NM so I might as well start prepping for this. Let's see...I need to tow a Subaru SVX on a trailer...3500 + 1500 = 5,000 lbs. Towing this combo uphill to ALBQ should be interesting :crybaby: I do have a trailer brake unit on this vehicle BTW.

I was thinking of towing a box trailer from Uhaul to carry all of my garage crap (welding gas, gas cans, aerosol sprays, metal, fab crap, tools, etc). This will either be a 5'x10' or a 6'x12' tailer behind the Grand Cherokee 5.2. The WJ should have no issues with this load.

The movers will move the household stuff...that's gonna be expensive I reckon :crybaby:
