I have stripped my 62 down to get to all the rust on the roof and gutter and then plan on a home paint job in the garage. Question is on the gutters. Ive spent 3 hours on just picking and wire brushing the old caulk and sealant out of the gutters and Im wondering what steps to take next. Do I re-seal the gutters before or after the paint job? I know I should know this but the PO had so much damn cauking in there that I dont know what came first? Any help and input on materials would be epic! Im down to bare metal and old rust that has now been neutralized on the gutters all around FYI

Primer - sealer caulk - then paint
You want the primer to seal the paint first

wow that 3M stuff looks like its not going to go far. @g-man how many tubes did you use? I'm in the same boat for replacement.

I used it on my 63 Galaxie. comes in a blue 5 oz tube. 3M Heavy drip-Chek sealer # 08531. Been a while since I used it but I don't recall going through it quickly. I would think 2 tubes would be enough. Squeeze it and let it run into the gutter. It will level itself out ..no need to smooth it in any way. You're not trying to fill the gutter up. Just a pea sized bead in the bottom of the gutter.

Here is 3M's description:

The 3M Heavy Drip-Chek Sealer Gray is a light gray colored sealer that applies easily and adheres well to properly prepared primer and paint. It shrinks during the curing process to provide a visual definition seam. It is perfect for applications like roof drip rails, coach joints and narrow automotive seams (all definition seams).

The 3M Heavy Drip-Chek Sealer Gray is a heavy-based sealer designed for use on vertical seams. It has a heavier bodied consistency and can be applied easily up to 1/8” bead. It resists gas and oil and adheres well to metal, paint, glass and rubber. This sealer weathers well and does not crack or deteriorate in sunlight.
