picked up an 01 for the ol'lady a while back. All stock 130k. I expected a little more power out of it for a v8. It seems to run fine, trany hooks up fine. I am not at all impressed with its current power output. I purchased it from a reputable dealer so I would assume they ran a diagnostic check on it before they put it on the lot. The "power" mode makes absolutely no difference shift points and acceleration seem the same, SLOW. It does have decent power on the top end for a short rpm range. I guess I expected more from a v8. Any suggestions on power upgrades? Oh Yeah.... I live in California so emissions will be an issue every couple of years.

It's suffocating.

Open up the airbox with a deckplate. Click the build thread in my sig for more info and pics.

Thanks, checked the build thread. this makes sense. More air!!!!!!!!!!!

Worked for me...

Check simple stuff too. The bracket that holds my throttle cable was tweaked a bit not allowing the butterfly valve to fully open at full throttle. Fixing the bracket tightened up the cable and made a huge difference in throttle response.

Once you check all the potential technical issues, remember it's heavy at almost 6k and only has 230 horses. It'll never let you down, but it's a cruiser like the name says, not a race winner.

Most people who have spent significant time and money to modify their engines only get very modest performance improvements.

Throw on a turbo :D

Let's first try and find out what he's expecting from the V8? His 100 might be running totally perfect.

Compared to what other large vehicle (or other vehicle type) are you feeling that the LC is sluggish?

f-350 stock power stroke 35" tires pulling a 20' 5th wheel trailer and an 18' ski boat. I understand the landcruiser is heavy. I test drove a similar Sequoia and it seemed to have substantially more power. I was a toyota mini truck guy about 25 years ago when they were really gutless. I can remember when the 3l v 6 came out, they were the s***!!!!! I understand the 3l is a pos by todays standards but at the time there was a major power increase. Maybe I expected the same increase from the v6 to v8. I think I'll do the airbox upgrade and run with it.

The sequoia's V8 seems to have gobs more power. I wonder if the 2wd conversion on the 100 would pick up a little seat excitement.

My buddy has a 05 tundra 2wd. It's a complete animal on the streets. I drive his around town. Get in the 100 and feel like I lost 4 cylinders...

Once i opened up my intake and when I use 93 octane, my UZJ will eat a co-worker's 03 2WD Sequoia on takeoff. Mine used to be a DOG before when it was stock on running on 87, no kidding.

The f-350 is a different beast all together, that's almost a commercial class hauler, it would be tough to put that in the same lineup as a LC100.

I'm not 100% sure but did the Sequioa and LC share the same engine prior to 2008?

Try finding someone in your area with another LC and take it for a spin.

what kind of mileage are you getting? if its 12-14 in town and 15-17 on the highway then it's not likely a clogged cat.

The comparison to the F350 was a joke but the acceleration is comprable when the f350 is fully loaded. I just purchased a scanner so I am going to check for any faults, also I recently did the Sea Foam treatment on a GM motor in my 60 as well as douched the MAF and it made a big difference in the way it ran so I think I will try it on the 100. Deffinatly plan to cut a big hole in the air box when the wife isnt looking I plan to add a short peice of pipe and screen and extend it towards the headlight to try and hide the mod, Just in case the smog Nazi is having a bad day. As mentioned by someone previosly it called Land CRUISER for a reason, I guess ill have to come to terms with that.

The sequoia is part time and believe it or not its curb weight is about 300lbs less than a 100. Also what year was the sequoia, cause it may have had the A750 (5-speed) which will give it more get up and go.

I think this really comes down to perspective. If you'd 'upgraded' to a 100 from an 80, or heaven forbid a 60, then you'd think you'd hit the jackpot with power. I had an '87 FJ60 with nearly 300K before I bought my 100. I've never owned any other vehicle with a V8 so I have nothing to compare it to.
