How do the trail rides work? The add in Toyota Trails says guided rides on Mon, Tue, Thur. I assume we can hit the trails when we want, but they only have organized rides on those 3 days.

I'm interested in going, but may only be able to go Thursday - Saturday/Sunday.

The rides, if like last year, are orgainzed by the Toyota Trails Team. Other than that you grab a few people and pick a trail and on you go. Most people talk throughout the evenings to plan rides as a group for the following days.

I will be at the other end of NC that weekend riding with Carolina Trail Blazers at Carolina Beach area.

I was thinking I saw a couple pics from last year a big "field" with a road going down it, I do not recognize it from being in Tellico trail system. Is there some alternative trails they hit besides "Tellico"?

For those of us that are clueless ;p, could you give us more details on this event or a link to such info.? I've heard it mentioned at some of our meetings, but I'd like to know more about it. Dates, location, etc., etc.

I'll be there again this year, my 10th. I'll most likely arrive on Saturday and stay through Thursday morning. I'll miss the BBQ and raffle for the first time so that I can get back for my wife's graduation. I'll be camping w/ my buddies from NoVA in the McNabb overflow meadow. We've been set up there the last 9 years, so it's tradition. Plus....we don't have to drive all the way up Trail 1 every day to go wheelin'.

I just read Scott's GSMTR link on STLCA's area and as of last week they only have 43 registered. They apparently need 100 to turn a profit and all profit is going to save Tellico. I've never been and would like to go check it out.

Registration is open until 4/21 (coming Monday), so whoever wants to attend needs to get the check in the mail.

We will be there from Wednesday to Sunday in one of the Tellico Cabins. Should be four FJ40s and a 4Runner with us.

As for the event, there are a few of reasons they have so few registered at this point. The cost of registration is high at $150 per truck. With other costs getting higher (fuel) people are going to cut costs somewhere. The event is headquartered at Crawford's, which is a great campground but so far away from the trails. A lot of people go and stay on the Tennessee side and never register because the event is centered an hour away from their campsites. And unfortunately with several trails closed, a lot of people just won't go at all.

Gotcha;)

You can register for GSMTR for only $90 this year. You have to buy your own trail passes.

See ya out on the trail R.K.:steer:

Looks like I'm SOL! :frown:

I was hoping to make a last ditch effort to register.....Unfortunately I've had a string of bad luck lately, and have had more money going out than coming in.

Let me know if anyone has a shotgun position open, or can't use their registration.

You don't have to register to go to Tellico during that time, they can't "reserve" the trail system. I think you will have to register in order to stay at Crawford's Campground though.
