It sounds like we did this a few years back, but wondering who would be interested in a group by for some three eighths synthetic cable either for their Winch or for towropes.

Rob has the tools to do the ends so it's just a matter of buying a big spool of line and the protector cord covers.

If you're interested and want to join let me know how much line you would want and how much protector. We will start getting prices together.

Bottom line here is that we all like to save money so this is about the cheapest way you're going to get the line.

Also if anyone has a good source please post up or PM me

I am in for a 100'.

I have been trying to get a hold of this place in Lawrence but have not heard back from them.

http://www.customsplice.com

I have looked online but thought it would be convenient to find some locally.

i'd be in for a short run like 2 25' pieces some thing like that

I would like 85 feet for my M8000 and then another two lengths of 25-35' with spliced ends for extensions. Not sure of price per foot, tho - - could change things slightly.

Now I need to figure out how to use the old steel line to make a zip-line to a proposed tree house! :)

Changing what I wanted.

Looks like my winch has 65' of 3/8" steel cable.

Think it is feasible to put 75' of the synthetic on it?

I would also like 2-25' sections.

Any recommendations on how long the protector should be?

Protector on the winch should be long enough to cover the last entire roll of cable as most cable I have seen is not UV stable, or has longer life if protected from the elements. On the sections of extra line, I would recommend 40 to 50' length, then you can double up if you want it shorter. On those, add 5 feet of protector for middle.

I found the name of the place in lenexa i got the last spool, I'll try and call next week for some prices

First, What type of line are we looking at? Amsteel?
I don have a wench (yet). : ( If and when I get a wench, I want to make sure it can haul an 80 out. Suggestions?
I figure I’ll need 100’ for the wench. I can always make it shorter, later, if needed. I’d guess I’ll need 2 to 3 feet of protection on the long winch line.
As far as extra I’ll take 50’ with 4 foot of protection on it.

Where are we on this?

Anyone have luck with sources?

I found the name of the last place I baught the 1000' spool, will try to remember to call for a current price tomarrow.

Any progress with this? I tried Custom Splice in Lawrence again but still haven't heard back from them. I might try sending them a message from their website.

ok I got some pricing. I can get 3/8 for 2.55/ft localy or 2.12/ft plus shipping ?. Either way a spool is 600'

Sounds like 2.12 a foot plus shipping is a good deal. Any estimate on shipping? Mike, check your source, and if anyone else has a source check into pricing.

OK. Finally talked to someone at Custom Splice this morning. He is going to get prices on a 600' and 1200' spool and hopes to get back with me today. I will let you know what I find out.

Question: How do we get the end-eyes / winch stops attached if we buy a spool? Does someone have a kit or does the seller break the spool out into lengths or?

Thanks!
