Talked with Custom Splice again today. He said that they would rather not sell a spool but instead would look into a group buy.

He asked me to call back on Wednesday and talk with his boss to get better information on a group buy.

What I'm tracking so far:

We collectively want 555' to 575' of line and price per foot is $2.12, $2.35 or $2.55.

Is there "cut loss" we have to factor into completing the end of each cut?

If cut loss becomes an issue, I don't mind my lengths being cut to request, from the spool. I understand their will be loss of length pending how the end is finished.

Does anyone know how much line it takes to put in a thimble, eyelet or whatever?

the way I did it last time was if you bought 100' you got 100' of line and the finished line was a little less than 100'

Talked to Custom Splice again today. They said if we are interested to contact them about a group buy.

What do you guys think?

Sounds pretty darn good. Likely have sales tax, so price would be similar; but, don't have to take up Rob's time making ends, plus protectors....

Do you see any negative?

Hey Custom Splice.... you have thimble ends that you sell/recommend?

Attached is a quick picture,
I have Gusseted tube thimbles
Non Gusseted Thimbles.
Excel Hooks, which work great with the Non Gusseted Tube thimbles,
And Have Pro Links in-stock.
We also stock Standard Galvanized thimbles.

Tough Stuff as I understand it no longer has the Licensing for the safety thimble.
I do have one left at the moment from the new manufacture, it is the last one I am told I will be able to procure, as they are no longer doing wholesale sales.

Ok guys.
I would like to add if you are ordering a 50 foot extension, it will be 50 feet end to end.
Also Please do not post these prices, I am doing this to help some locals out.
I do not want my vendors seeing what I am selling to you.
Our Sales in this area are almost nonexistent and I want to have more locals seeing my product.

Also other sizes are available, and I will gladly personalize your fairlead for you if we do the installs at my shop.

Thanks
Todd

sounds good to me lets make this happen. I would gladly display some advertising.

Been reading up before deciding. I'm in but, Somebody confirm what I've read.

True or False? You need a protective sheath on the drum end to protect the rope from heat. And you need enough on the other end to cover the entire outside layer to protect from UV and miscellaneous crap.

ccasteel 1 @ 120 feet 120 total feet winch - add safety thimble
2 @ X feet Protective sheath for both ends (contingent on answer to above question)

Shop details? Yeah. I could prob read but I did google it and didnt find anything. I assume ur local. Good to know local places.

We are in Lawrence, on the East side by Haskell University.

Custom Splice
2220 Delaware
Lawrence, KS 66046

We have a couple business out of this location.
We do all of our splicing here, as well as have our Hurco CNC Mill here for making our Aluminum Hawse fairleads, reciever hitch adapters and other various things.

ccasteel,
We do not suggest running a sleeve over the drum, it is only needed if your abusing your winch, IE a continuous 40 foot reverse run of the winch.
We also are including a 10 foot Chafe Guard pre installed on each rope, this does two things.
It provides protection from rocks and trees, and it provides sun resistance.

SOunds like we have me, cjmoon, stucknKS, and CCA confirmed.

How about ASI H8, Tancruiser and weejub?

with cca, we have 725 feet total.

I am up for a Sat morning meetup there to install and maybe a trip to a local suds afterwards. interest?

It all sounds good to me. Change my extension to 1 - 50' instead.

Sorry Guys. I'm out. I don't have a winch yet so basically I'd make the buy, it will sit, Wife will get Pi$$ed for spending coin that is rolled up in a wad somewhere until I spend more coin on a winch.

Todd,
It's F'N awesome helping us out like this. Granted Odessa isn't "local" to Lawrence, however when I have enough coin for wench and line, I'll come out and see ya.

I think we have enough guys to justify doing this,
I will confirm as a soon as I see the tracking working on the spool, but is anyone up for doing this in one week?
