Haven't been keeping up with the latest apps to diagnose fault codes, but with Android apps on the Grom, is there something out there that is similar to techstream?

Torque works, and it is useful, but in my opinion, it is not really a substitute for TechSteam.

Should arrive tomorrow, does anyone know where the install thread/video is? I know I read it before but cannot locate in the search for some reason. Thanks-

Also who's ever first to it needs to show how to integrate a camera into the unit (I have a 2003 with no backup camera)......

Two RCA inputs on the unit—just plug one in. Buy two, and have a front camera.

Unless they've changed something, I remember a HDMI "in" and a HDMI "out" on the VLine, but no RCA inputs (at least not without some sort of "optional" harness)

(edited to add)

Ahh... The optional cable:

Really? Yours shipped already? I don't have a shipping date yet.

Also yes! Someone do the front-facing camera.... and tell me - I mean us - which one to buy and how to set it up. I bought the extra camera cable with my order. Oooh... maybe that's what's holding it up. ;-)

Oh, interesting. That was just included with mine in the box (not this group buy, obviously). Maybe it's separate now?

Their website is vague - just says the $10 cable is for a camera. GROM told me the kit comes with one cable - for the rear camera. I hadn't heard back from yet when I placed my order, so I add a cable to my order.

That is hilarious-definitely don't want to see how I installed it.

Unit arrived today-and I have never taken dash off or done any sort of project like this...but it was really pretty straight forward. Had the dash removal tool and 10mm socket, pretty much only tools needed. Took maybe 30 minutes to connect the unit. But when I tried it out, pushing "disc" a million times no luck. Thought I needed to disconnect the CD changer per an insert they put in package, and tried to take the center console out to disconnect CD changer. Frustrated with that process, I was able to chat with support and they recommended leaving one of the harness connectors disconnected. That did the trick (though now sat radio isn't working). But otherwise very smooth process.

Will work on routing the mic and gps tomorrow, but main install was easy. The unit has the latest firmware and carplay works via USB like a charm. Hoping the bluetooth Carplay comes out next month.

Good luck to everyone installing-thanks again Nemo for pulling this together at the big discount! Cheers-

I thought the upgrade of the VL2 (over VL1) had bluetooth car play ready to go?

Tethered CarPlay now... wireless/BT CarPlay next month... probably... hopefully.

I'm hoping (okay sure, maybe I could've looked into this before buying it) that the cable used to connect to CarPlay is also a charging cable. My wife's 2019 Acura is not. Kinda sucks.

Using a USB cable for Carplay acts to charge my iphone-

Just heard back from GROM (great CS by they way), I need to disconnect the CD changer and then reconnect the harness wiring for SAT to work properly. Not to figure out how to disconnect that changer...

Connecting a standard data/charging lighting cable to one if the VL USB ports should work- it does on my VL1 and I’ve been using carplay that way for a couple of years. I was just surprised to learn VL2 BT carplay was not ready.

Final post: backup camera works fine, didn't get any extra cables. Routed the GPS and microphone cables easily up along A pillar to dash and near rear view mirror. Gonna cancel sat radio subscription and leave that alone, using carplay with apple music subscription.

Two last tips:
Had to push apple car play icon about 11 times to get it to connect.
Use "USB-01" port for the iphone connection/carplay, as for some reason on mine the other port wouldn't work.

Good luck and enjoy.
