Ok i have this problem whenever i'm at a stop when i shift to reverse or 1st gear sometimes it grinds. What would the problem be?

Try adjusting the push rod on the clutch slave to make it just a bit longer. John

The gears tend to spin while not engaged. I use 2nd to stop the spin, then go right into 1st. Years ago I asked a transmission guy about it, he said it is to be expected in non synchro transmissions

This usually only happens if there is a slight drag on the clutch disk/pressure plate, or maybe a bad pilot bushing/bearing. Otherwise, there is nothing in the transmission to make it turn when you are sitting still. John

I've noticed that i can feel the gears spinning when it grinds. I'll try shifting into second before i go into first and see if that helps.
