anyone know where in town i can get my grinder motor fixed? i got a good Dewalt years ago, but the motor is making terrible noises. i've worked that poor thing really hard. if it can be fixed, no need to buy a $125 new one.

cruiser content, i need it to work on Project 16.:flipoff2:

X2.

At work we used to use a place off Candelaria and ???, but they went out of business. I have two DeWalts that are dead. This project really consumed them. I'm sure it's just bearings and if I looked at their guts I could figure it out.

darn. i thought you were most likely to give me the answer i needed.:D yea, if nobody knows of a place, i'll tear into it myself too.

Martin Saw and Tool. That was the place. Phone number is no good.

What time frame do you need it?

They're out of business. Too bad - the guy there was very helpful.

i'd like it sooner than later, i'm getting no work done now 'till it's fixed. though as mentioned, my project is on the long-term track.

what about Santa Fe tool on Central where Zuni t's in?

I think that's the name: it's where we'd (Home Depot) send folks when they wanted us to replace tools that were out of warranty.

2 good suggestions. thanks. i may pull it apart today and see if i can see what it needs. then call those places for parts.

Reason I ask, is cuz I know someone that fixes all kinds of things in that realm. He was going to rebuild my starter for next to nothing (maybe a week or two), but, I didn't want to wait. He has fixed grinders (asumming angle grinder right?), saws, compressors etc. I have a Makita 4 1/2" you can barrow if you need one sooner until he looks at it. Talking to him now about it now. He has some parts for motors. Let you know.

Rudy,

Like I said, I have two dead ones. Let me know too.

OK, I have been awake since 2:00 AM, sure maybe not much for a FF, but excuse me if I don't make sense. Just came back from dinner with him and wife. At first I brought up Shawn's (said may not be worth fixing, but maybe it will last for a year more depending what's wrong.). Jon, called him now, maybe a broken wire. But he is fine look at yours too. He can take them apart and diagonis (sp? i need sleep!) and see if he has the parts to fix them or if something needs to be bought ( only cost to fix if so) or if it is not worth fixing. If you want to drop them off let me know. I only have the one to lend out.

thanks Rudy. let me know when/where you want me to get it to you. i don't need a loaner, there's nothing pressing.

hey Rudy, send your buddy this pic. i found what is wrong with the grinder. that is the lower part that has little contacts that come out and run on these metal parts. the bearing is good. probably need a new grinder.

I assume that's the commutator and it's having a horrible deathly experience. Don't the brushes (replaceable) ride on this area?

I'm sure the terrible sound is when the brushes snag on the sharp edges created by the missing section on the commutator.

Even though I am a bit wetarded, that does look like toast. Look on the bright side, if it still runs you can use it despite the noise, you can throw in ear protection so you don't hear it until it completely dies.

yes, the brushes ride on that part. the problem is, it runs slow and with low power. no wonder why. but it won't work anymore. i guess i'll pick up a new one tomorrow.

New armature needed.

Translation, "Buy a new machine!".
