This is only half way done.

It’s very time consuming and rewarding.

So far I’ve done 3 steps on the hood, 2 on the upper doors and I need to do 2 on the pillars. All the lower doors need a light polish.

After that I’ve got a dark color sealant for gray and black cars that will fill In the scratches. Then it’s a few coats of wax.

I’ve basically bought all the stuff from chemical guys. Their procedures and projects are great for a starter like myself.

Major fuel leak fixed on the main fuel hose to tank. My buddy @houstonfj40 did it for me because I’m on light duty post operation.

Aside from a wandering idle, likely from EGR it’s running great. I’ve got a fuel smell from the pump housing on the tank but I think I just need to put the right screws in for that.

Just a comparison between a stock truck and a modified truck. @FJ62DadWagon

I went over yesterday for a drive just to burn some fuel off so I can reseal my fuel pump module. Sunday job completed.

He is the reason I’ll be doing a 5 speed in this truck aside from the fact that the a440f had a death wish from birth.

The chrome makes the window profiles look so drastically different. Never noticed that before on other rigs. Beautiful trucks! I almost bought one in that grey. It's one of my favorites.

Pure gold. Davico head pipes for a 3FE in a 62. 42208 and 42209. $62 a piece.

I’ll be able to fix my exhaust leak at the manifold and get the crusty old head pipes off.

I’ll inspect the oxygen sensors and do a set of bolt in cat delete test pipes at the same time.

The cats have to be plugged. The drivers floor pan is actually preferentially rusted and gets really hot where the outboard cat is.

Will those eliminate the pipe going under the frame?

No. They’re a direct replacement.

I don’t want to fab anything. Just want it stock with no cats.

Looked on their site…. Nothing for a 60 sadly.

By using 2 of the straight pipes (what's the part #?) you may be able to route the exhaust fully inside the frame and have a custom exhaust built.

@HemiAlex where did you purchase these?

Possibly. I got them from rock auto and I do have two sets of each.

Fuel pump module is sealed back in. No leaks from the high or low pressure lines. I used some light gas resistant gasket sealer on both sides of the rubber gasket since it was pretty old. Hopefully that helps it seal.

It’s a bad idea to work on the gas tank and stain night stands at the same time. I’m on fume overload.

Fingers crossed. Thanks for the help with bolts. @tmxmotorsports

After letting the truck sit for a week, it’s safe to say that two major milestones have been met.

1. The truck no longer smells like fuel.

2. The idle is much better due to a simple EGR cleaning.

I was ready to delete the EGR completely. @Kleatus convinced me to give it a cleaning instead. It was likely carboned up and the seat assembly was blocked, allowing it to bypass at idle.

I soaked the two ferrule nuts in Kroil for a week. I would run the truck to let it soak in with heat, and when it would start to smoke off I would stop. I did this for about 5 days and the second I hit the nut with a vice grip, it came straight off. I was shocked.

I used foaming gun bore cleaner til clean foam pushed out of all holes on it. It took a while but then I rinsed it under pressure a few times and eventually no more carbon came out. I could also hear that the diaphragm wasn’t torn and could feel pressure being retained.

I installed a new FelPro EGR gasket #70410 and it fired right up. It hunted for idle a little bit and then settled down normally.

I then went and ran errands in it.

It’s shocking how good and normal it can be at 292,000 miles with just basic upkeep. I’ve not done anything special and it’s all done by the FSM.

We’re getting closer to the 5 speed swap. I just want to drive it around very gently to get miles on before then.

I’m going to start ordering factory endlink hardware, oem shocks and leaf spring bushings. I’ll do it all in one move.

Those EGR nuts terrify me. I’ve never even attempted to remove them on my truck. I picked up an entire spare EGR system that was still assembled, soaked the nuts for two days, applied some torch, and tried to remove one …. Snapped the mounting ear off the EGR valve. Been gunshy ever since. Well done man.

I can’t explain why this went well.

But I was terrified and had the stuff ready to cut it all off and block it off.

So awesome!! How are those 4.10s going to be with the 5spd. Do you have plans for larger tires? I saw a possible hint of it above....

I think they’ll be great. I’m planning on 235/75r15 Michelins and I predict that I’ll gain a little highway rpm above the A440F but it will be fine.

The near 5000 rpm limit of the 3FE means that a cruise of 3000 rpm will not be an issue. I’d be more worried with the lower rpm ceiling of the 2F.

I want to leave this one all stock. The 60 already is enough work to daily.
