I was on the market until recently and had seen the ad. It was way over my budget so I did not bother calling. Sometimes owners are dreaming and they are testing if someone comes along and buys it. Also, sometimes things change and they need the money. I would go see it, offer him what you think it is worth. He is likely to decline the offer, so tell him respectfully that his price is not compatible with the market and to give you a call if he ever changes his mind. You never know if you get a call a couple of weeks later and score a 40th.

I'm in Burke, VA, so feel free to reach out. I'm a newbie when it comes to LCs, but I can always help.

Good luck.

Awesome, thanks a lot. I appreciate it.

Looks a way overpriced. No lockers.

I'm curious... what are you paying your stock, unlocked 80's with sub 200K miles that aren't ratted out?

@OP... that rig is located near Ryan at OTRAMM. Very convenient for a PPI. Not saying that the rig is a "Buy," simply putting that out there.

green is the worst color IMO....

Yeah, only poopie headed do-do's would drive a green 80.

WTF has happened to Mud? Good grief.

I'd say it's the high-side of fair. Sub-200K 80s are rare. 40ths are rare, some care about them, some don't...but Antique Sage Pearl brings a premium over the Emerald.

Totally depends on condition. I've followed the 80 market since I bought my 40th in 2000 and sold it in 2011. Mine had close to 250K miles but tons of maintenance, a recent head gasket and related engine work, a modest build and factory lockers. I wouldn't sell the same truck, today, for less than $15K...sold for a kiss under $9K in 2011.

80 Series are on the rise. The 100 Series and 200 Series are the only USDM Cruisers still depreciating.

If I was in the market for an Emerald 40th, I'd pay $10K for this one if it were extremely clean and well-maintained.

If I just wanted an 80, I'd hold for superb maintenance and factory lockers in a color I preferred.

*edit: looking through the pics, it looks pretty clean. I'd want undercarriage pics due to location.

Having recently been on the market and spending countless hours searching for an 80 (cars.com, Autotrader, ebay, etc.), I can attest that I found very few ones (nationwide) that looked clean and were below $5k. It seems people used to buy them dirt cheap a couple of years ago, but that was not the market I encountered. The NADA guides have them at 5K (average low retail), 10K (average medium retail), and 17 (high average retail) if I'm not mistaken. IF that is accurate, that 40 would be in the average medium retail category. Please note that I'm not saying you cannot find a clean one for less than 5K. I'm only saying that my experience was that those are not that common.

$10k is a fair starting point considering mileage and condition. Definitely look underneath and inspect the engine compartment. Slee has a great buying guide for newbies you should give a look at here. I looked for a long time for mine and like this one, the seller had a high price on it, but we were able to agree on a very realistic price and in the end I scored a very clean truck and couldn't be happier.

I'd definitely consider taking a closer look to it, the price is not bad for a stock 40th, looks like it has all the pertinent decals and emblems...looks like a clean 2 owners truck, if is mechanically sound, and I'd buy it.
You won't find a 40th with 178k miles for 10k nowere else.
