I'm no mechanic, but I owned an FJ62 and own and restored a 1981 FJ40 (thread link in my sig line) and own a 1997 LX450. I do all my own work and do pretty good work. I know what to look for (weepy axles), brakes, lockers, egr system etc...
Let me know if you want me to take a look. I live about 5minutes from feasterville (I'm in Southampton).
