I have read some threads about balancing tires using BB's or Golf Balls, I am not sure why this works, I just installed my tires no balancing (36'' Swampers), I have a bad wobble in the front end, should I have them balanced first or put some BB's or Balls in them?
Thanks, Chuck

search the Airsoft BB's.

Also, Bigger tires have a tendency to amplify the issues that you have.

How tight is your steering? Alignment? Look over everything carefully..

The way the loose media balances is by dynamically going to the bad spot. Google Centramatic or Equal tire and see what they have to say.

I would not do Copper BB's or golf balls if I were you..

Steering is tight, I just installed p/s, alignment is toe in about 1/4 in, caster and camber have not changed. I will check into the airsoft bb's

needs to be heavy... Ideally, dense like lead shot

you should be able to balance 36s with regular wheel weights

Mark...

I wouldn't put anything inside the tire.
I just learned this from my mechanic.
ANY debris inside the tire, even dirt, will start to eat away at the inside rubber.
I'd go with the wheel weights.

Lead shot or metal BBs would be the worst, IMO, that definitely will attack the inside of the tire.

Golf balls seem to work OK for truckers, but there was a picture on the web of what a golf ball looks like after a life inside a tire (couldn't find it, sorry) - it was a bit shocking. I'd stick with the BB's.

Plastic BB's, which is basically the same product that are sold for this purpose as "Dynabeads" (although that might be ceramic, I don't recall), probably won't do much harm to a tire.

If you are sure its a tire balance issue. An old trick we used to use is rotaing the tire on the rim 108 degress. there is a highspot on every tire and a highspot on every rim if you get them matched up you will never get them to balance out. but that trick has worked well for me with swampers in the past.:meh:

i run the heavy airsoft pellets and have been happy with the results, would do it again. i runi think 12 oz per wheel

What about with beadlocks? I have new 37" BFG KM2's on new MRW beadlocks. My front end with my 35's was tight with zero wobble. With the new setup it is livable at 60-65 mph but there is some slight out-of-balance wobble.

Can you use wheel weights on the beadlocks or do you have to use something inside the tire?

I am pretty sure it is a balance issue as I installed the tires and have not yet had them balanced. I will have them balanced and go from there, I just thought it was a cool idea to not have any weights on the tires, I read some posts about the bb's and such and it seems that a lot of people have vibrations until they get up to speed.

I'm putting Dynabeads in my Taco (daily driver) tires tomorrow, and if I get good results, I'll put some in my FJ40s tires.
