Well I finally sold my Tacoma and got a Carpet Crawler hauler. Still looking for a cheap 40 to wheel.

1. There is a whine/whistle as I am accelerating, but when you maintain a constant speed it disappears or quites down. pinion? ujoint? My dad says its been doing this for 20k

2. Do your heat sheilds keep coming lose and rattleing? Under the passenger door?

3. CD player sucks and skips over everything and the speakers rattle, and direct speaker replacements?

This is a 94 with 145000 miles on it that my parents bought new.

I removed my heat-shields from my '94 earlier this spring -- they rattled like the devil --

-- my '94 has run smooth as a Camry ever since --

the whistle is "normal" or at least common, it is airflow in the muffler, as long as you can live with the whistle no need to do anything about it

Land Cruisers just do this under hard acceleration - a couple of members have tried different approaches to fix...migh want to search on it if it's really bad.

You need to tighten up the heat shields that cover the cats - they are located on the passenger side, under the door.

The head unit is just old technology - you can try cleaning it...or replace. Look for my writeup in the tech section at the top of this forum for speaker replacemet ideas - gives model numbers for direct replacements..and ideas of what other members have done. Replacing the speakers will make a huge difference ...

Good luck!

Thanks for the answers! Half of the links in the faq don't work, they just take me to the forum main page.

It's not always the cat-coverter covers that are rattling. There are some smaller pipe heat shields on the 'down pipes' of the stock header that can rattle as well. A nice sized band clamp works wonders here.

Get under the truck and tap on them with a screwdriver or something else hard, you'll find which one is rattling pretty soon. You can also have someone open and shut the doors (that's how I noticed mine).

The CD player in my '93 didn't work when I bought it. First thing I did was to put in an Alpine and some new Alpine 6.5" speakers in the doors. The fronts fit just fine and the rears will take a 1/2" spacer and some metal trimming. This setup rocks!! And, if your sub woofer still works it even sounds better because they can keep that working if they know what they're doing.

I also put in a Cobra 18 WXstII CB below the Alpine. Check it out....

outback....You don't by chance remember the model # of those front door speakers?

One more spearker questions....Seems like most of you are putting 5.25 in the front doors and the online places are telling me 6.5. Do the 6.5 fit with the stock grill? the top mounting depth of the speakers I'm looking at are 1.875"
