GMRS Install Midland Mxt575

Just wanted to document this to hopefully make it easier for others. The 575 is in large units so it was very hard to find a space to install it. I completely tore apart the dash and removed the entertainment center along with the radio and found no space large enough. Other units are smaller so this could be possible for those units. Also checked under the seats same result. Ended up doing a glove box install. I also did the antenna mount at the front of the hood. I didn't like the wires coming out of the side of the hood for clearance issues. I used a ghost antenna from Midland

What would be the benefit of that? Only downsides as far as I can surmise: Subjected to the elements and greater temperature fluctuations, and harder and/or impossible to access on the fly

I’ve never seen any mention of weatherproofing in any of the midland MXT radios. Mounting in the engine bay is not advised. If you’re pressed for space, the MXT275 has a much smaller head unit that opens up more mounting options.

Kinda curious about the ingress of the power and antenna coax thru the glovebox. Did you have to drill thru the rear of the glovebox? Or how did you route it to the radio itself once past the firewall grommet??
