Hi all!

I've done some searching on the web to find the history of a word with little luck. So here's the question.

Saginaw?

There are saginaw transmissions, power steering boxes, and even saginaw trailer hitches, but where does the word saginaw really come from. It can't be so simple as all these things being made in Saginaw Mich. can it?

GM history lesson please!

Yup.
Just like Detroit Diesel
or Fords 351 Windsor and Cleveland (Oh.) :D

Muncie, IN for Muncie transmissions too.

But how about Plymouth? Not named for Plymouth MI, but, according to the source I read, a marketing idea by W.P Chrysler to make people think of reliable, simple and versitile like Plymouth twine that everybody used like duct tape back in the day.

I always thought SAGINAW a family name at one time or another obviously now a shareholder owned conglomerate.

Saginaw Michigan???? ???

Well living in MI most of my life. I have relocated to Ohio (on a 30 year rental basis)
Most of the names you see of towns, cities and counties come from indian names.

Mackinaw
Saginaw
Tawas
Gratiot
Escanaba, for our friends in the UP.
