Hi,

Have read on a few sites that people have fitted GM tilt steering columns to their 40's

Not knowing much about American cars can anyone suggest in which GM car - model - year will if find a suitable column

Anyone got any tips on fitting

Cheers

I will throw a couple out and others can correct me if I am wrong. You might also search like crazy on this site for that is where I got my info:

Monte Carlo
S-10
GMC Jimmy
Even a cherokee column which has delay wiper

I do not have dates nor proof but those are from the notes I have been collecting over time!

Good luck and welcome and the search feature and tech link listed above will help further

I used a 80 something full size chevy truck column. in order to tuck it up nice you either have to relocate the ignition switch or bend your brake pedal a bit. on chevys of that era the part where the key goes in is just connected mechanically to the actual switch further down the column.

I've got a 1990s-era s-10 column, and it works, you'll either have to go aftermarket stwwering wheel or adapt your stock wheel, and you'll need a u-joint and coupler to mount the 1"DD end of the column to the stock gearbox. you friendly neighborhood junkyard is a great source for columns and rag joints, most of the parts could be had for the price of lunch.

Another possibility is using a BJ70 steering column, Twisty had one fitted to his '78 and it looks sweet. I think the ignition's on the column, and other controls.

mid 80's Caddy Deville

I have a tilt column on my truck but have no idea what it came out of. I really need to know what it is out of because my blinker mechanism is broken as well as the horn.
