What are some ways to properly locate the 350?

I have the idea that I will line up the transmission shifter (SM465) in the original hole and see where it sets and adjust from there.

I will fab my own mounts for everything, but may use some of the K20 parts to help me out a little.

Thoughts?

positioning

My center of the mount is a little less than 5 1/2 " forward from the square stock hole in the outside of the frame...

the center of the mount is also appx. 15 1/2 " from the firewall.

It is a 350/465 combo in a 55 so it should be close I suppose but every conversion varies as you know. I have the Advanced Adapter crossmember.

HTH,

You need to balance it so that the shifter isn't in the dash, but you leave as much room as possible behind the heads. Don't go so far forward that the radiator fan won't fit. If you're looking for excact measurements, let me know and I'll take some pics of mine too.

Placing the 465 shifter so it will fit in the stock hole on the tranny hump is not possible. To allow for proper clearance behind the 350 heads, 1", the 465 shifter wil exit the tranny hump directly under the heater core. The shifer can be bent, as stated above, to allow the proper alignment of the tranny. Been there, done that, went to a 700r4.

OK, thanks! I had thought about an auto, but I don't have the money, and the GM that is donating it's life is a manual. Maybe when I'm loaded i'll get one (and a silver star).

I'm sad that you have been there and done that, but forgot the t-shirt :D

3 weeks and I'm going to start this project!

You can find an auto pretty cheap already with a NP203 hooked up to it. Then all you need is a $500 adapter to a Toyota transfer case and you are styling 4:1.

Of course, there's that $500.

In the end it's cheaper to do what you want in the first place, but it's a fact of life that there's a lot of things that are cheaper if you have a bunch of money to start with.

I don't have a Toyota t-case, I sold it to buy the 2000 mile 350 with high compression. The engine was in a 96 1/2t and was a crate motor from GM. The guy was unwilling to run premium so they replaced it under warranty. I bought it as a core for $100. Best deal I've ever gotten. My brother worked at the GM shop at the time and knew I'd want it. He just took it from the shop before anyone else.
