Hi guys, long time no post...turns out Civil Engineering IS a difficult degree to get.....

It has been cold on the Island for a littel while now, and my 3B is running rough for about 5 seconds after start-up. I would like to heat up the plugs longer than I have been but I need your wisdom.

When I turn the key, the glow plug light comes on, goes off 2 seconds later, then about 3 seconds after that (5 seconds total) I hear a "click" from the engine bay. It's after this click that I start the motor.

Is this "click" the sound of the glow plug timer turning off the juice? If so, how can I ever get them hotter?

Thanks,

Hi Moose...

By going through two cycles with the key, then starting.

Or turfing the superglow and going straight manual, ala the Wilson swtich.

there should be "clicks",one after about 5 second then another anywhere from 15-30 seconds which is determined by the tempuratue of the engine...
i agree with Greg, switch out the glow plugs for a manual set and bypass the super glow completely...

My glow screen has a very short duration when temp is about -2C.... In fact I find that I have to crank the engine over more at this temperture then any other.

Thanks

GB: Your glow screen works on a different system than Moose's glow plug system. You should do the simple manual override that Mike (Stickboy) and I have done, using a normally closed push button switch. Here's the thread:

I have done this mod to my BJ74, GregB's BJ74, Petra's HJ61, and a few other JDM Cruisers...and so far I haven't heard of anything negative about it. Takes 15 minutes to do, and your truck will start much better when the temp starts to dip below freezing.
