Hello everyone, just paid for my membership dues and I am already in need of some help.

I live in the Sandhills (Aberdeen, specifically) and am in need of a windshield for my 1981 BJ44

Does anyone have a shop that they know of that can help me with this? I have had zero luck with any local shops, and the windshield I ordered offline arrived cracked.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Maybe find a place that sells windshield patterns and supply that to a local shop for cutting and install?

And, welcome!

We have our Xmas party coming up first weekend of December. Think about joining us - wheeling at Uwharrie, sleeping and eating about 7 miles away.

I asked the local glass shops and they will not cut automotive glass for whatever reason. The Sandhills is pretty small, and the glass shops here seem to be more of just installation shops rather than actual glass shops.

I need to expand my reach I suppose. I was hoping to not have to trailer the truck somewhere to get glass, but that may just be the case.

That is good to know!

Is there anywhere I can educate myself on the specifics?

There will be a thread on it here before too long.

Also, you might consider removing the windshield frame from the vehicle and just bringing that to the glass shop when you find one.

Resolution

Finding out really quick that actually knowing how to do things is a dying mentality.

I ordered glass from Cruiser Corp, it showed up cracked. (Cruiser Corp eventually sent out a new one and it arrived undamaged.)

I found a new seal and it showed up in great condition, so that was cool.

A local glass shop claimed to have a piece of glass for this, I was skeptical.

They showed up to install the glass, but it was of course not the correct glass. Luckily, the guy who showed up was as old as time and was very familiar with installing glass with rubber seals.

He helped me out and we got it installed. He charged me 100 Dollars to do it.

So, still no idea of a shop in NC that can do glass work for ya, but Cruiser Corp has glass and it seems to be pretty fair quality.

I have a guy in Haw River that in the past would cut glass for me. He recently custom cut a piece of mirror glass for the frameless rearview mirror in my ‘67 40 series. He would need a pattern to start with for something like a windshield, etc. He has lots of experience with older classics.

I need a replacement glass for a 1977 FJ40. Was Cruiser Corps the best place that you found for your windshield? I already have the moulding. Most of the glass companies that I have called in Conway and Myrtle Beach can’t find a supplier.

Hey man,

Sorry for the late reply.

Yeah, CC was the only place I could get glass from. The shops here do not cut glass and are trying to get away from doing old car glass.

I am sure there is someone around, but I just have not found them.

Good luck man!

I appreciate the reply! I’ve got one on order from them but they’re back ordered for another 3 weeks or so!
They seem to be pretty busy if you were to judge by their shipping timelines, but the quality of parts has been solid.

There customer support response has been a little shotty as well, but got worked out in the end.

I used ADVANCED AUTO GLASS out of Raeford for the install, if you need some help. They did a good job.
